Default Abolishing Georgia State Tax??

I've read a lot of chatter about a bill proposing an elimination of state income tax announced in Jan 2007. Any update on this??

The chatter right now seems to be concerning House Speaker Glenn Richardson's proposal to eliminate property taxes by increasing the state sales tax. So far, it hasn't been introduced.

I haven't heard about the elimination of the income tax.

I doubt this will pass. The problem with going with an all sales tax is that funding for education would be highly susceptible to fluctuations in the economy.. whereas income taxes and property taxes are more constant and dependable.. and imagine what the salestax rate would have to be in Georgia.. probably somnewherearound 12 to 15 percent... that would certainly hurt businesses in border cities next to states that have much lower sales taxes.
