Default West Point

Around November, I am planning on moving to the West Point Area. Any ideas on where I should live; up to a 30 minute commute is ok. I am not sure if I should be just focusing on Georgia, or I should also be looking in Alabama as well. I am planning on living in an apartment complex first until I get to know the area a lot better, so any advice on apartments will be much appreciated as well.

Currently, my focus is on the LaGrange area. All comments are welcome. Thanks All!

Default Residential Choices near West Point, Georgia

Check out: crestclubapartments.com.
Crest Club Apartments in Valley, Alabama are very nice and quite affordable. New construction in the area will be ready for occupancy in April of 2008. Crest Club and the new multi-family units are adjacent to the Valley Community Center and Sportplex, which is a fabulous facility. These apartments are all off of exit 77 in Valley, Alabama, and are less than 10 minutes to the Kia plant that is currently under construction. Rooftops, retail and dining are all growing rapidly in this area because of the growth that Kia and the Kia suppliers will bring. The state line is virtually invisible for residential and retail matters. If you plan to build or buy later, the structure of Alabama state property taxes is more favorable than that of Georgia. Something to look at and think about.

LaGrange is one of the nicest small cities in all of Georgia. The Callaway Foundation has poured much back into the community. LaGrange College is excellent, a college always helps a community have an extra bit of culture. West Point Lake is just at the city's western border, many nice lakeside communities.

Valley and Lanett are ok, should rebound with the Kia plant, but are not in league with LaGrange. I grew up in Hogansville just to the north. I love it because it is home, but all in all, LaGrange offers more than all the surrounding communities.

If you are used to small town life, West Point, Lanett, Valley and Hogansville may suit your needs, but if you want amenities of a larger community within an easy commute of West Point, LaGrange is your best bet.

If you need a larger community, Columbus or Auburn/Opelika are not a bad drive, but I would still go with LaGrange.
