a tourisits opinion, just passed through
I was in Cartersville last Sunday as a tourist and I really enjoyed it. Old highway 41 between Cartersville and Kennesaw is very developed, yet it is not crowded. The city appeared to be very clean and the terrain has beautiful mountain scenery, however, it's not so mountainous that you feel isolated or overwhelmed. It's close to Atlanta but not too close. If I were moving to this area but didn't want to feel smothered by people, I would have to look real hard at the area around Cartersville. Too bad the lake is so low, but I'm sure it will refill itself someday. The view from the local Starbucks was fantastic. You are very fortunate to be moving to that area IMO.

Recent survivor of Cartersville here...
DON'T MOVE THERE.
Majority of people are ignorant, small minded, and bigotted. They tend to believe that Cartersville is the end-all-be-all of cities and no one should ever leave or go to college or travel, but stay put forever.
Having recently escaped the Cartersville and Bartow County school systems, I can definately say that the schools are utterly appalling.
At Cloverleaf Elementary School, all of the children will have known each other since birth and be just as small minded and ignorant as their parents. If your child does not fit neatly into the preset mold she will be constantly harassed and bullied.
The high schools are even worse-- Cass High told my brother that he had enough credits to take a semester off and return and still graduate on time with the rest of his class, and so he did, and when he returned they tried to force him into repeating his entire senior year.
Cartersville High is largely clique-y and jock oriented. People who don't fit their smalltown mentality are again, ostracized. The teaching is a joke. My algebra teacher freshman year used to blast music during tests. When I asked him to please not play it, he told me "I'm gonna play my music". Needless to say the principal recieved a rather unpleasant visitation from my mother.
AGAIN, do not move to Cartersville if you want your children to grow into talented, educated, openminded young people.

Schools there must really be bad, if they taught you that one (yourself) makes up a majority.

Umm...Cass is county and Cartersville City is....City? And seriously, someone thought you could take a semester off?? Wow. I live in the Cass district, so should I now be worried about my children going to school there?
Thanks for the laugh.

I am also relocating to GA and spent 2 weeks in Cartersville, checking out homes and areas some nice some not so nice. I found prices to be reasonable and they are building it up. What turned me off was the Bowen Power Plant. After doing some research I read this plant is a coal-fired power plant. In 1998, it was rated the worst emitter of toxic chemicals in the whole United States...Of course it's now 2007 but I did go by the plant and the smog cloud could be seen for miles. That was my big turn off to Cartersville. Recently I spent some time in Cumming though a bit more expensive then Cartersville I did like that area better.

I think you will find the city schools far different from the county schools here, although the county system has improved much, but please do not compare Cloverleaf to any school within the Catersville City School system. As far as Bowen is concerned I wouldn't live on that end of town with or without Plant Bowen. At one time that was the most desirable are to be but it is so crowded on that end now, it is much like Cumming or Forsyth Co. Where the number of cars are 25 yrs ahead of road developement. You can't get ANYWHERE in a reasonable amount of time from there. The NE side of town is much more appealing for purposes of conveniences.

we go to Cartersville all the time; at least once a month. It is a really cute little town. We love this place. Put down roots. Get to know the "folks" and try to become part of the family. Join a church, join the PTA, or PTO, and have fun. It is a Home Town kind of place.
