Default New laws of note in Georgia

New laws of note in Georgia *| ajc.com

LMAO this is classic stupidity from the fools we have running this state.

• Parents who apply for the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program must pay for and pass a drug test that would cost at least $17. TANF provides temporary financial help to low-income families with children. Passing the drug test once would be a condition of eligibility to receive benefits.

Really? You are making people who are applying for temp aid to pay for a drug test....sigh...sometimes I do wonder if our lawmakers really read the crap they pass. I agree people should pass a drug test but if they had money ya think they would be applying for it in the first place?

It's $17. That's it.

You're a rather short-sighted fellow, aren't you?

Perhaps you've never been poor?

$17 means absolutely nothing to me - but I have met people who would have a tough time making $17 available for something non-essential. To them, it would mean that neither they nor their kid(s) will eat that night. For some, it would mean that they and their kid(s) won't have anything for lunch the next day, either...

This. And, by potentially spending millions on this "problem," the state of Georgia could potentially save a couple thousand bucks. Nothing like a 90+% waste rate.

Yet again, those in power who claim to oppose Big Government are the very ones who push for it.

It would be interesting to see what this program actually accomplishes (how many applicants actually failed the test, etc.), but I suspect we will never see that data.

There are dozens of recent posts about this issue, in this forum. The "Search" feature is available at the top of this web page, on the blue bar, 5th option from the left.

While true, most of those were speculative and based on the same sort of law being passed in Florida.

The law actually exists now in Georgia.

It does accomplish something: Punishing the poor for being poor.

Right, because that's what evil rich people (and Republicans) do all day long. They sit around and think of new ways to punish poor people for being poor. When that gets tiring, they take a break, count their money and listen to talk radio or watch Fox News, and then go back to thinking of new ways to punish poor people.

Is that what Neal Boortz told you?
