Smile Planning a move to central GA

We are empty nesters from Lancaster County, PA., hubby can retire any day but i want to keep working. Visited family in Macon a couple weeks ago, fell in love with eatonton area .. looking at buying a modular home and 1-2 acres or a 3bed/2+bath home close enough to eatonton that i can still find employment (currently an executive assistant).

Anyone from that area? How is the job market (admin/accounting experience)? How are salaries in that area? We stopped by Horton Homes and Palm Harbor while there; we are amateur golfers also; plan to buy boat after we get settled. Have extended family living on lake sinclair

We have always talked of moving to GA/SC area and now the time is here. Anxious to learn as much as we can before we make a final decision as to where. Beautiful, beautiful state. Would move tomorrow if we could!

two of our sons are alumni of philly ... small world, eh? one is a capt in usaf - c135 pilot; and his twin bro is a capt in the army - blackhawk pilot ..

stepson is with ANG at robins afb in macon ...and are expecting a baby in jan .. our first grandchild .. so that is the push to get to GA. i doubt i will be able to make 15.00/hr in ga, correct? oh well, i could be a walmart greeter in eatonton or mil-ville??? hehehehe. have lots of experience .. hubby is definitely ready to retire .. we are siding to a modular .. of course the real estate market in eatonton area is so different from here ... what do you think like 2 acres would run? and appx. how much to clear land, drill well, spetic system? are there lots already perked?

it sure was hard coming back to pa after a week in GA ...i have to consult my map ... don't want to be in atlanta suburbs .... want to say south .. ie, lake sinclair/eatonton area or south.

tks for my first response !!! i did not even know this city-data.com existed !!

tks.. and have a great day ..

well, since we are looking more retirement area, somewhat peaceful area, i almost think i am sold on eatonton area .. atlanta area and suburbs too busy for me ... i would think in another 5-10 yrs atlanta suburbs will joint atlanta city ... i like the idea of smaller towns .. but still looking; just not any closer to atlanta than what we are currently looking. hehehe, i bet not to hard to take being so close to disney ... my boss is headed to that area for a convention wednesday. yes, i have to stay behind ... rats !!

It won't be the first time i had to start over at $10/hr. i had 20 years with a large printing company - they downsized and u guessed it .. wham !! at least i got 1 week for every full year of employment ... so i find another job. well, down to 9.75 .. then to 11.47 in 2 years. and bam!! they relocated to another facility in south hill VA .. so back i go to 10... hired on fulltime.. got a raise to 11. well, lets say making over 14/hr. in less than two years. soooooo.. they say three is a charm, right ???

thanks for the response .... fun chatting with ya !!
