Have to agree with previous post! Small town living in So.Ga. has everything we`ve always strived for. Virtually no crime, never a worry of home invasion, caring neighbors who are there when needed, and fairly low cost of living.
Look around when you return home, am sure you will find your Utopia!

As much as I love GA, I have to agree with what someone else said...Texas! People are much friendlier, and more down-to-earth. I would say it's harder there to find a town that ISN'T like what you're looking for, than to find one that is.
In GA, I would suggest Jesup, Richmond Hill, Rincon, Thomaston, Zebulon, also look at Northeast GA. Also look at Tifton, Lowndes County, Thomasville.
Bama, some suggestions, Auburn, Brewton, Greenville, Oxford, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden.
Where you stationed in Iraq? Unit? MOS?
God Bless and make it home soon!

I think that the "mad face" on the front of the thread may have caused some unwanted controversy, so let me clarify, I was not asking my question in anger! I was angry they deleted my first thread, because it was asking the same thing I asked on this one, just worded better. I was angry they deleted it because on almost every other southern based thread it is filled with "Northerners" asking about racism, and calling us Rednecks and hillbillies, which those words don’t bother me, but I know the condensation they are putting with those words, and that’s fine too, just don’t delete my thread when I ask about places that are still "truly southern"! So I just wanted to say thanks to every one who has helped, and I’m not angry, I’m in a great mood. The only thing that would make my mood better is to be out of this dang sand box and back at home with my wife and kid!!

Mayberry
OK people, you'all seem to have other agendas. GaBoy-n-Iraq was asking a simple question, and from what I see it has nothing to do with race.
Where can he find a "Mayberry" type town?
I think alot of people are looking for the same thing..where can we live and leave our doors unlocked? let our kids run free and play outside all day without worrying. Where can live where it's safe to leave your keys in your visor and no one will bother with your car.
I grew up in a town just like this, as most of us probably have.
It's about getting back to the basics, the good old days, safe, happy, worry free place where people are polite and kids can be kids.
There are many master planned communities out there that are striving for this type of atmosphere.....big or small city. You may want to look into a large masterplanned community..you will be missing the charming downtown where the kids hang out at the ice cream parlor. but they will have other amenities to keep your kids busy and safe.
swimming pools, parks, clubhouses with activities.
We are building a house in Lake Arrowhead master planned community in Waleska Georgia. When the developer finishes, this community will have it's own little downtown with shops, and restaurants, golf, water park, kids parks, clubhouse, activities,, tennis and it's all on a huge private lake.
All this confined within 24 hour manned gates. This is as close to Mayberry as I could find in Georgia. I have not yet moved in, but everyone I met is very polite, including the children.
I am hoping this is my "Mayberry"
Good luck GaBoy-n-Iraq and God Bless You.

Ga Boy n Iraq,
Ga Boy n Iraq,
Zebbie is quite right about scouting around and the idea of checking out newspapers is a good one. There are a LOT of places in Georgia like you describe. A small town is probably just what you are looking for. (Small towns don't have the media influence that larger cities do.)
I don't think you are going to have to worry about how your children turn out. If you teach them the values that are important to you, and live by them yourself, they probably will not stray too far.
And, I thank you too for your service. Despite what the media would have one believe, there are a lot of folks who believe in what you doing and appreciate it.

Ga boy i live in southeast georgia in a medium sized town. the aspects you are looking for are not in my town however i spend as much time as I can in a little town just south of me, Folkston, Ga. This town still holds the morals and values you are looking for and it would be very benificial for you to look into. If not Folkston then many of its surrounding towns are like this as well such as Hillard, FL, St. George, Camden, etc. Just do some research I completely understand what you are looking for and truely hope that you and your family find it.

2 angels,
Lake Arrowhead has had a few meth labs in it. I hope they've cleaned it up.
