Are you close to Northern Tallahassee Fl ? For a big(ish) city I like north of Tallahassee it still very southern! I may end up south of Thomasville Ga, and work in Tallahassee

No I am about 2 hours south of Tallahassee, but I think you will like the Thomasville/Tallahassee thing...I have a friend who lives/works in Thomasville and he and his family love it! I live between Cedar Key & Gainesville in a very small town called Bronson....look hard you may find it on the map. We have one red light, one drive-thru & 2 restaurants, everything here is family owned! I love it for the same reason I want to leave it...everyone knows me & I know everyone! It is small town living at it's best but that can get smothering sometimes! However, were I ever to leave I know I would miss it terribly. There is such pride being from the South...I know FL's not the "south" haha BUT we are here and I would never want roots anywhere else! Good Luck!

GaBoy-n-Iraq -- The area between Thomasville and Tallahassee is definitely plantation country and the land is not cheap, beautiful but not cheap. Large chunks of this property belong to plantations that hold them and will not allow development. So what there is north of Tallahassee (which seems to be THE place to locate) is in much demand. A lot of people commute from Thomasville to work in Tallahassee, as they are connected by a four lane highway. First of all, A huge "THANK YOU," for defending our country. Now on to the subject at hand. Contrary to some belief, the south does still exsist. It does not matter where you go in this world now, you will always run up on some kind of racial tension, name calling, hatred among fellow kind.This I don't understand , I thought after all these years, we would have growd up. Now on to your question about a good city. i was born and raised here in Cartersville, Georgia and now reside in Euharlee. We are a little spit in the road with no red lights. But back during the summer, we did get 2 new stop signs. The schools are situated right here in Euharlee. Crime rate is low, 2006, 0 murders,rapes,robberies,assualts. Elevation is 680 ft., land area is 4.62 sq. miles. The down side is we have Plant Bowen which is a coal fired electrical plant. we are a quiet community, the Etowah River runs right through, along with Euharlee Creek. Several festivals, chili cookoff, pow-wows, grandma contest, we also was home to the duck derby, but the crowds got to big and ran out of room, so it was moved to Allatoona Dam. While we live in NC, we are looking at relocating to Ga, specifically the NW part for the mountains, etc. Being there a couple of weeks ago, I must say I found everyone we met to be extremely nice, polite and helpful. Even the kids working the drive-thru's. It was a refreshing change.

I wish you well on your search for a good home for your son. I am sorry so many people on this forum took up your very precious time to hound you on a subject that was not mentioned by uyou. I relocated to the Orlando area in Sept and I am returning HOME to GA! Cartersville. I dont think anybody has mentioned the Northern areas that border TN like Elijay and Blue Ridge. Beautiful mountains, peaceful area. Only bad is jobs. I love Cartersville area. Close to work and bigger cities but you can walk in the neighborhoods after dark. Cartersville, Calhoun, Resaca, Kingston, Euharlee, etc etc.... Everybody waves, lots of child activities, great schools, churches, and communities. Home sweet home feel all around.

I am in the process of working with several people in Moultrie, GA. To me it's like the city that has been missed by time. Man, it's like Mayberry! I love it there. When I visit, I am reluctant to come back. The entire town attends the games at the high school. All of the people are the tip your hat and say good morning kind of people. Until I visited there, I never would've believed it. It's the town that time forgot. Bainbridge, Thomasville is really growing, but it's still nice. There are some nice towns down 85 also

Thanks to every one for the great ideas! I just returned to Iraq from the good'ol U.S. of A. off R&R leave, it was great!! 3 more months in this hell hole and im back for good, this should be my last deployment! Any way I think I have narrowed down my decision to the south east region of Georgia, Im thinking some where a few miles off the coast maybe around brantly, ware, clinch, or lowndes county! I have not completly ruled out Pooler, Rincon, or Richmond hill though! Any advice on these areas would be great! This site has been a hugh help, thanks again for all the help!

I live in the Atlanta area, and I can tell you that it is not what you are looking for, but I travel a lot with my work and I came across a beautiful Southern Town right off of I-20 called Madison. It is about an hour east of Atlanta and, although I can't tell you what it is like to live there, it looked like the sort of town where children have ideal childhoods. Maybe someone from that area can tell you more about it. Good luck.
