I Honestly believe that everywhere you go is the same , you just have to find a good area outside the city. For instance i live in Florida and i moved outside my city into another county which gives me my peace , my space and i can focus on getting things done. Now i'm moving to Georgia and i am looking for a very nice area, now i here people say so many different things , so i will have to take occasional trips to find out for myself. But i will say to you, when you get the opportunity visit the state you are most interested in and see what you come up with. Good luck Soldier Best wish and God Bless

I know exactly what you mean, GA Boy. I was raised in Valdosta, GA. I moved away 3 years ago to Tampa, FL, and I'd like to move back, except for the job situation...I make as more here alone than my wife and I both made there. Of course, housing here is outrageous, so it balances in some ways.
By the way, as it's been said, thanks for your service. We appreciate you!
I miss the small town feel, being around family, and having my kids grow up around their cousins and family as I did. I miss the low crime area. I miss people waving as you pass each other on the road. I miss the small town where people know each other, and know each other's family in some way.
If I can get some things worked out, I will return to south GA next summer. I hope you find what you are looking for, it's out there...I didn't really appreciate it when I had it, but I sure miss it now!
I guess it's true, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Loud and Clear
You clarified your meaning, alright. The confederate flag was a symbol of the Southern side of the civil war, which was thought to be over slavery at the time. Southerners were open about it, since racism wasn't then considered bad or unusual in this area. It is only recently that people felt shame over their pro-slavery position and tried to clean it up. Southern GA is full of towns where people wave this flag in each others' faces. You should have no trouble finding such a town.
As far as the Jena 6 are concerned, if that student who hung up the noose only got a good beating, he should consider himself lucky not to have received the hanging he was threatening others with.

I believed most small towns in Georgia are still like that, specially cities in South Georgia. Georgia is very conservative state outside of metro Atlanta, athens and coastal cities.

FYI: I don't condone violence, but I just had to comment.
I love how people act like a noose is some sort of play thing. A noose is and will always be a MURDER weapon in the Black community. Hanging it on a tree is interpreted as a THREAT. If someone threatened to put a Jewish person in a gas chamber, or approached them with a lamp post covered with human flesh from their ancestors, how do you suppose they would react? Do you ever wonder what that Caucasian boy said to provoke a beating? Do you think he was there minding his own business, or does a more logical side of your brain, prompt you to question whether or not he alluded to the noose? Hmmm... It's not hard people. Race-motivated attacks are a form of terrorism and need to be treated as such. There should be laws in place to prosecute and go after individuals like they do with Taliban. In this day and age, this behavior should not be tolerated. Period.
As far as the confederate flag. I have a question: Would anyone have a problem with African Americans, waving that flag? Perhaps changing the stripes and stars into the colors of red, black, and green (broken link)? After all, our legacy comes from the Good Ole South, as you say - there is a deep rooted culture and history there.

tiffsbutz,
With respect I suggest that school boards can and should work with superintendents to develop rules (the school equivilent of the laws you wisely suggest) to outline what is and is not acceptable behavior on school (public) property and what the appropriate punishment is for disobeying such rules.
When school boards WON'T act, taking important situations into the public sector and is one way to gain support and to CREATE change.
I suggest that SOLVING our problems cannot be done by violence, but only by working together. And IMHO responding to verbal or symbolic threats with violence only divides the people of our country.
All the best

You are absolutely right, that is why there should be appropriate federal laws in place for things like terrorism -- which is what those children participated in by hanging that noose. BTW: You are really showing your maturity level by changing my name. Very idiotic indeed.
P.S. It's equiv alent. Not equivilent
