All these people think the other people are lacking so in comes the labeling. I mean I live in the Bronx, NY. Manhattanites 1. think I live in 3rd world war zone and reside in a refugee camp or something 2. can't fathom a person living in the Bronx would be happy to be there. 3. And would rather share a 2 bedroom closet with 5 roommates to have a Manhattan address each paying $1,000 than venture into the Bronx (which is perfectly safe and fine, we even have a suburb) to have their own place twice the size of that closet and pay $1,000. If I came from Brooklyn Queens, or Jersey I'd be hip, being from the Bronx I'm looked on with pity or something is wrong with me. |

Understandable, since they're isolated and force-fed news by the Times and TV, all of which is prepared and presented by people with an agenda. But since it's no longer PC to hate any ethnic group, nor to feel any animosity toward poor misguided serial killers, I guess it's only natural to turn your hatred toward 'ignorant country folk'. You gotta hate somebody, right? Easier than hating yourself. |

Both assumptions are untrue. The only people that I think you are talking about are younger and wealthy/poor/or poorly educated. They don't care about anything and don't know to care about anything than whats immediate to their lifestyle and surroundings. The rest of your post I don't know what your talking about. If your talking about Islamic terrorist. I assure you we don't "love" them or something. I mean they did murder over 2,500 of us in one shot. There is plenty of vocal hatred and disdain. And why would it BE PC to hate an entire ethnic group? That sounds scary to me. I mean you can hate anyone you want really. But I mean if you hate Puerto Ricans and address one as a **** at the Target cash register don't expect people to pat you on the back. But you seem you like you've had a bad experience from a few New Yorkers. As I don't know where this information is coming from to make such sweeping assumptions. Generally because Larger cities tend to have many different people from different backgrounds and areas nationally and internationally and just as many different ideas. (This includes people from rural areas). I mean where do you get your news from that is agenda-less? If you know anything about any media outlet they all have an agenda. That what they have Editors-in-Chief for. To make sure that agenda is being met. |

As Far as a kid hanging a noose from a tree being the same as terrorists killing thousands and thousands of Americans or people in general, I beg to differ. When is the last time you heard of more than a isolated event of some one being hung or even beat up for being black? When the last time some one was killed or beat up for being white, yeah I thought so, dont like them apples, think of how many "hate crimes" happen today, people have a hard time calling it a "hate crime" if its a black kid beating up or robbing a white kid!! But who knows maybe you are right, I am White, so.....maybe I just cant understand it, lol, maybe? We did put a noose around the neck of the leader of this country (IRAQ) for his involvment in terror, maybe all of america are racist terrorist? I Think not, but according to you and a few other posters on here anything to do with a noose is "racist and terrorist" Im kinda in a big hurry, and dont have time to go back and fix all my misspellings and grammer, please forgive me, every one who really cares thinks Im a "Dumb Country Boy" anyway, lol Does any one have any info on best cities in kentucky? Thanks One more quick thing, a buddy of mine Danny Preist, just received the "Purple Heart", he was wounded by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and messed up his arm pretty bad! If you are the "church going" type please say a prayer for him and for a speedy recovery.....and for the rest of us here. Thanks Again |

Hey, I know exactly what you're looking for...the old time values and neighborly attitudes. You know, even though I have lived in the south most of my life, I did live in a very small midwestern town for 25 years and they had those same qualities you are looking for. We could ride our bikes all day and were safe the whole time because everyone in town knew where you were. I could stop and eat lunch at the soda bar/variety store, without a penny in my pocket, and Herb, the owner, would just say, "I'll catch your momma next time she's in here" (to get paid). In the evenings, the parents would all sit out on their front porches visiting while us kids would play tag in the dark or catch lightning bugs. We all walked to elementary school. Everyone went to church on Sunday mornings then to a grandparents house for Sunday dinner. If you and your friends did something to get in trouble, whichever mother found out first would spank all of you then take everyone home - and no one threatened lawsuits because they were just glad that someone else loved and watched after their child when they weren't around. We would set up lemonade stands in the summer, then spend the money buying a milkshake uptown.
I could go on and on....but I do know what you mean. Those small All-American towns still exist, but the times have changed, unfortunately..so it won't ever be exactly the same as it was back in the '50's and 60's. I'm just saying that don't be afraid to look outside the South for that Mayberryesque town. And I want you to know that I have just added Danny Preist and you to my prayer list. Good luck, come home safe, and THANK YOU for serving our great nation! |

. I'm a country boy who lives in a small town in south Alabama. I have vacationed in Manhattan and I will say it is more segregated by class and race than anywhere I have seen in the south. It seemed like 80% of the faces I saw in lower and mid Manhattan were lily white, and these people had money. I noticed most of the minorities and people who are poor live in the boroughs (and Harlem). I don't know about the Bronx, but the Queens I saw from the backseat of my cab did look like a war zone to me. It was nasty, old, and run down, I don't call that "hip". New Yorkers aren't as progressive and tolerant as they want people to think they are. As for living in a small town, it's more than walking through cow pies . If a major disaster ever happens in this country, who do you think will have the upper hand? While the city folks are murdering each other over bread crumbs, the small town folks will be growing their own food and protecting their children. Now who's smarter? Also, I'm a small town boy who happens to be GAY! Does that blow your mind? ![]() |

To the OP. Check out the northeast corner of Alabama (Fort Payne, Scottsboro), eastern Tennessee (Sevierville,Greeneville), and the west end of North Carolina. The northwest corner of the Florida panhandle (Milton, Chumuckla) might also interest you.

And also: Southernnaturelover is right. Scottsboro and Ft. Payne are nice places. Sevierville may be a bit touristy, being so close to Gatlinburg, but it's a lovely place anyway. |

You and Mr. Danny Priest are in my prayers, as well as all of our brave soldiers. Signed, A Transplanted Yankee Who Must Have Been Southern in a Past Life. "I got here as fast as I could." |
