Default Life After TSPLOST

As we all know, the Transportation Special Local Option Sales Taxes was defeated in the metro Atlanta area but passed in both Augusta and Columbus as well as Dublin, so what does this mean? To many people this is just a minor set back while some say it's a hard fought victory, what ever side you support, the fact remains the same, with or without SPLOST people are going to still move to Georgia. Augusta and Columbus have been competing for years over who is better, but after this what is next for them.

Columbus and Augusta aren't really major competitors....... Maybe Savannah, but in reality(not on city data) Augusta is with the South Carolina big three, and Columbus would be in the category with Macon.....

Please explain how Columbus and Macon are competitors in reality? No one in Columbus talks about taking over Macon,or wishing Columbus was in Central Georgia.

What about Columbus? Columbus can be compared to Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. Columbus and Montgomery actually work together with some companies and law firms.

Columbus is easily in competition with Augusta. Their populations are practically the same. Are you kidding?? Augusta is not on the same level as Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville.

With Columbus having a leg up on Augusta city population,of course he wouldn't compare. Now if we were talking about metro stats,he would be quick to say Augusta Metro Pop > Columbus Metro Pop (which is true).

Based on census Augusta is slightly larger. However, most people who moved for BRAC rented and more than likely have not become citizens. I have a rental property that is rented by military and they haven't become Georgia residents yet. I would imagine Columbus's population is over 200,000 at this point.

In next year census estimate Columbus POP will be over 200,000. All of Augusta isn't consolidated, which is why their city numbers are different from the county.

Augusta compares better with SC big three than Columbus does by a long shot. All Columbus has going for it is population, 30 thousand being forced to moved to your region.

Augusta is 10 yrs behind the SC cities. Columbus and Augusta are identical in city population. Auburn/Opelika happens to be large enough to have its own metro. Augusta does not compete with SC cities on any level. Anyone with common sense knows that. For example, Raleigh and Birmingham are similar in population but Raleigh is light yrs ahead . Augusta might have similar metro population but that's it. Tired of people from Augusta making it something it's not.
