Default Augusta,ga

Hello Everyone, I will be relocating to Augusta in the next year and would like some info on the area I have done a little research but nothing is like first hand knowledge from people who know the area. A little about myself black female{ I would like to know if they are racially friendly} daughter and fiance( He works for Dupont at the moment} and I have a bachelors in Child and Family Studies. Some of the things that would be helpful is: Education, Jobs, Crime Areas, Which is a better area to live in and just about Augusta period. Thank You for any advice you can give it will be greatly appreciated.

Do you want suburban or urban?
Price range?
Is diversity important?
do you want to be around other black professionals?

THANKS FOR RESPONDING, diversity is a must for me. since I will be moving and freshly graduating nothing probably over $650 but if I have to pay for a good neighborhood I have no problem with that. I just want to be in a good neighborhood low crime and not somewhere where everyone is living on top of one another. I will check out the Augusta forum. And once again Thanks!!

Dear SKA15,

I live in Grovetown GA which is about 10 minutes from Augusta. You will find diversity here without a problem. I would stay away from South Augusta and crime you will find anywhere but try and stay in Columbia County vs Richmond County. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and rent is under $600.00 a month however there is no pool nor playground for the kids. Jobs are scarce here to me its very congested. We are actually planning on moving May of next year to North Georgia where its not as busy. Hope this helps a little.

I don't know why anybody would stay away from South Augusta, but simply move to Grovetown... There's no way in h### parts of the city limits of Grovetown off Wrightsboro rd(multiple trailer parks) are more desirable than Diamond Lakes, Lakes at Spirit Creek in South Augusta. The real estate prices and nicer subdivisions in Grovetown are similar to those in South Augusta.. The homes on Columbia rd in Grovetown for example are nice, but the homes on Willis Foreman in South Augusta are too.

I think you might want to come down, and visit the area yourself....The poster above must obviously just like Columbia County better. West Augusta easily crushes Grovetown in terms of real estate prices, safety, amenities, etc...

I never said I like Columbia County better (Grovetown) its very congested! I can't stand Augusta period that is why we are moving! But as far as schools and crime Columbia county is better then Richmond County NOT all areas of S Augusta are bad but for the most part it is. Again it all depends on where they want to live. But I agree with the previous poster. Visit the area and take a look for yourself.

Interesting how it's always a person hyping up Columbia County, and bashing South Augusta... They always seem to be very new, and have only a few post... Grovetown high and Cross Creek in South Augusta have around the same graduation rate.

How would somebody who lives in Grovetown know that most of South Augusta is bad? The majority of Grovetown is bad then, because the nice areas are mostly concentrated north of I-20..

I think you mean in terms of comparing schools/crime overall, and not individual areas/schools.... There's no place in Columbia County for example with the percentage of million dollar homes(Summerville) in a small area..

I guess the fact that I have driven in S Augusta again some parts are OK to live in but for the most part I would not want to raise my kids in S Aug in my opinion, then again I dislike the area in general and that's why we are moving lol.
