I agree, it is much more appropriate to describe the activities of the town as art-supporting or festival-happy or family-friendly. Wine-tasting or bar-hopping. Sports-crazed or meadow-grazing. Peace-loving, protest-prone, or flag-waving. Square-dancing or rave-partying. Pipe-smoking or non-smoking. Dirt-farming or greenhouse-growing. Racetrack-driving or buggy-riding. Insect-collecting or bug-swatting. Bird-watching or deer-hunting. Fly-fishing or frog-gigging. Shrimp-boiling or vegetarian-nibbling or food-feasting. Flash-frying or slow-marinading. Lawn-mowing or fallow-laying. Sun-worshipping or shade-dwelling. Hammock-hanging or stock-market frenzied. Weather-predicting or rain-dancing. Porch-sitting or pool-swimming or sky-diving. Skiff-sailing or trolling-motoring or jet-skiing. Kite-flying or remoted-controlled-barnstorming. Barn-raising or demolition-happy or history-preserving.

Folks, in my life-time, I have voted Democratic AND Republican (though never twice in one election…..ha!). Let us take life as it comes and turn down the volume on political rhetoric. This forum is no place for political slant. Pick your favorites from the above list……….or better yet……..TRY THEM ALL!!!!!!! I have tried them all (except rave-partying, frog-gigging, and sky-diving… but, who knows what’s next?) This is LIFE, this is AMERICA…… you can try anything you want to, anywhere you want to!!!!!!!!! Go for it!

So of all these descriptive terms, which ones would you use to describe Dahlonega? Festival-happy, that's for sure.... and what else?

I've been enjoying your posts on this subject. One problem with using terms like liberal and conservative is that these words mean different things to different people.

To me, a town is too conservative if a number of people know my preference for religion but judge me for it and try to change my point of view.

To me, a town is too liberal if a number of people know my preference for Walmart but judge me for it and try to change my point of view.

To me, a town should be friendly enough that people ask you to visit their church or their grocery store. I like being invited... but once I've declared a definite preference, a town should be mellow enough to let me live my life in my own way.

But that's just my opinion, others will have a different view altogether.
