Interesting number of battlefield monuments, historic preserve there. Close enough to Fort Oglethorpe and Chattanooga for conveniences while preserving a rural flavor within Chickamauga.

Super!!
Been here 2 1/2 years, have one child in middle school and 1 in high school..
They are great! Very small town, but everyone knows everyone and people actually look out after your children. Small school system, they "beat to their own drum", don't follow Walker Co. School calendar, but with this comes EXTREME Politics. If your teacher didn't graduate from their, and possibly their mother or father, and one of their parents, and one of the great-great decendents may possibly have a street named after you... your child will probably NOT get too far in athletics! They absolutely do pick and choose who gets what punishment based on who they are!!
I LOVE the town, LOVE the people and my neighbors (for the most part..) and, coming from Atlanta, will NEVER move back to the big city!

Hi Flynurse,
I would love to hear more from you. I lived in Chickamauga many years ago when the population was just around 2000. Hate to hear that about the school but I expect most small towns are like that. By the time your middle-schooler is a Jr or Sr, people will have forgotten that you haven't lived there forever! Where are you from? Who is the doctor in town now? Did anyone take Dr Pope's place? Where bouts do you live?
Beautiful in that area.

I lived in Chickamauga five years before I came back to Atlanta. This is a wonderful place to live. I moved back to Atlanta because I had inherited a home. You are fifteen minutes from Chattanooga and there is no traffic. The views are great, the prices are fantastic and the people are awesome. Have lots of fun.

Sounds great! I also will have a middle schooler and high schooler by the time we move there in early summer '08. Would it be easy to find a lease/purchase home/doublewide? Are the schools in town or do the kids go to schools in other towns? Any info would be great. We live in NC now and the cost of living is terrible. Looking for a laid-back, friendly low cost of living kind of life. HOPE Scholarship too!!! We are coming down over Thanksgiving to look around at the area. Thanks for any info you all can give me. Angie

Nice little town if you are not a person of color. We are mixed and were snubbed the whole two months we were there. We should have known better when we went there to visit. A lot of hicks all over the place. A lot of the towns around Chickamauga are that way but this one is really bad! We moved to a nice town by Rome. Still have the views but more diverse. We like it much better. But if you are white, you will love it. Im sure.

Chickamauga Battlefield is a wonderful piece of history. We really enjoyed driving thru and checking everything out. Love the bookstore at the museum. We are moving down in early June. Looking forward to exploring more of the history there. And, our daughters want to look for 'ol green eyes. :-)
