Counties/Cities with mountain views...help name them? (Atlanta, Macon: military, income)

And, is Cobb County on the list?
My mailman husband and myself, a teacher, with 2 school age children are contemplating moving to a mountainous, INEXPENSIVE area that has a city nearby, but we don't want to live in the city...and has great schools.
I come across different cities such as Elijay, Morganton...and Cobb County, but I don't know how close to the mountains, or on the mountains, they are. Or anythign about the school district.

Can you help?

Check out the Lookout Mountain area. It is about 20 minutes south of Chatanooga Tn.

Check into Pine Mountain, Ga. The area is about 60 miles south of Atlanta, very inexpensive area, close to Thomaston. Be prepared for this area, slow lifestyle, I do believe the people still leave doors unlocked. The friendliest people I have ever met. No gangs, bad attitudes or any negative attributes I can see (just the drive). As stated, slower pace. It is like stepping back into the 1950;s. There are very moderate homes and also upscale homes in this area. As far as retail etc., you do have to drive to Macon or Griffin. Hope this helps.

Ellijay and Blue Ridge are the two biggest in that area, Blue Ridge having better mountain views and less built up than Ellijay. The property prices in those two counties (Gilmer & Fannin) have gotten very pricy, due to all the money that comes out of Atlanta and from Floridians. North Carolina and Tennessee aren't very far from that area (20 minute drive) and I ended up purchasing property in Tennessee, much cheaper and no state income tax.

Cobb County School district is one of the best in the state of Georgia. We made sure that we were in a good school district, before even selecting a home. We live in Kennesaw, GA and are close to Red Top Mountain, Lake Acworth and Lake Allattoona. Some of the towns you may want to check out are Kennesaw and Acworth. Carterville is also nice and still is rural in some areas.

Oh, also don't forget to visit Chickamauga National Military Park if do you visit the lookout mountain area. Great place with a lot of history and overall interesting place. Don't forget to climb the tower if you do visit.

South Cobb is rolling hills with city views. From some areas of Vinings/Smyrna, you have a view of Atlanta. North Cobb, like Kennesaw area has a few small mountains, but if you're looking for real mountains (and an awful commute), I think the area you're probably looking for is Lookout Mountain, north of Alpharetta and Canton closer to North Carolina and the smoky mountains. I don't think you'll want to commute into Atlanta, though, and you'll need to work in an outer "suburb" like Kenessaw, Canton, Dawsonville, Alpharetta or Cummings unless you want to spend most of your time in a car.

The last poster- would any of those areas need teachers, so that I wouldn't have to make that long commute? How about mailmen, and I don't mean rural, but with city carrier routes?
