You have it wrong.
It would be hard to find anyone who is intolerant of immigrants.
Just about everybody here is descended from immigrants.
I think it is perfectly acceptable to be intolerant of criminals, however.
And while the majority of the Mexican, Guatemalan, etc. people here are
perfectly good, hard-working, family-oriented types, there has lately been
an influx of hard-core gangsters from the same areas.
People who have lived their whole lives never having to lock their doors
or worry about their kids are naturally going to be upset when they have
drive-by shootings, burglaries and car thefts to worry about.

Will look before a move
I am thinking seriously of moving to Gainsville. I presently live in Columbus GA so I don't know how I can get it any worse. I don't know how to say it, except plainly. I am afraid to walk in most sections of this city, but I have yet to have a problem from a Mexican. I am poor, so I cannot be too choosey, but Columbus has got to go. I hope our Hispanic breathren are not hostile to us Caucasions. I have experienced none here in Columbus, but I have to be honest, we have racial problems here. There is too much hostility between Blacks and Whites here in Columbus. If you are poor....it matters. Believe me. The city father's try to pretend that there are no racial issues here, but they don't live here in the city. I guess what I am trying to ask delicately, is if I move to Gainsville, I will be around Hispanics. In Gainesville, would that present a problem to me? Do the Hispanic people have problems with White's? I hope not, but I need to know. I have had nothing but good experiences from them here, but not with the Black people. I don't know why. I am not prejudiced. I try to get along with everyone. Maybe some other element in the White population has caused anger among the Black population here. Not me or mine, but yet, I have experienced it, and very unfairly too. It is getting really bad. Our family was military, you know, where everyone is 'green'. I just know I have to get out of here. I am disabled and getting older. I have to find a safer place for someone who is poor. (me) I do not want to be hated when someone doesn't even know me. How do Hispanics feel about Caucasions in Gainesville? I have gotten along with them, and will probably be living among them. Well, that's out. I am not deleting this because I have to know. Thanks for any reply.

I'm caucasion in Florida. There are Hispanics everywhere, many illegal. We have never had any problems with them.... ever! I love Gainesville, Ga. Hope to move there someday. I'm sick of hot weather here. Kaci

Working in Gainesville is great, but look carefully at the schools before you choose a place to live, perhaps elsewhere in Hall County or better yet, Forsyth.

Hall County schools are better, but still about 25-30% Hispanic these days.
2. You will see chicken trucks hauling live chickens all around the area. Not a pretty sight, and often chickens fall out and end up as roadkill.
3. The area is heavily Hispanic (Mexican). Some areas of Gainesville are like Little Mexico - it's that bad. The corridor from Atlanta to Gainesville has become a major drug running hub. Mexican gangs are being busted with pot, meth, etc. New teachers to the Gainesville & Hall county schools have to take a 2 hour gang awareness unit as part of their induction.
4. I think crime is mostly confined to the above mentioned areas. I feel a lot safer here than we ever did in Orlando (but that's not really saying much given how horrible O-town was for crime) I have heard recent reports of check stealing out of mailboxes.
Gainesville is a strange mix of million dollar lake mansions and low income Mexicans. I really have no idea where people eat dinner out around here. We have barely any restaurants. (but lots of really cheap $5 buffets where you will be the only white person there). We like the fact that we are about 1/2 hour from the Mall of GA and also the mountains for hiking. Lake Lanier is looking sad these days due to the drought. The water color went from clear blue/green (something never seen in FL) to muddy red/brown GA clay color. At least it is filling back up. There is a big medical community here. The people are very church oriented and you can really find some backward country types around sometimes. (you know they have never left GA)
North Hall county is beautiful, with rolling hills, and old farms. Lots of new expensive homes being built in that area. For teenagers, there is not much to do around here. There are lots of older (50-60+) folks. White folks ages 18-30 are nowhere to be found.

Nothing wrong with Latino people. It's just the fact that they are here illegally, and are a major burden to the state's economics. And if you had a clue, you would know that they are illegal's.
