There are several Alpaca farms scattered around NGA (Dahlonega, Jasper, Ellijay all come to mind). Sadly, I have to agree with the meth problem in rural areas. We have lived in Dahlonega for 12 years, almost never lock our doors, unless leaving. So, the drug related crime is not something to fear, but to be aware of.

I live in Jackson Co. and there are several Alpaca farms in the area. I commute to Athens for work and there are 2 hospitals and a Med school, but employment is still very tight in this area.

Any of the little towns around Athens are rural and historical, remember GA is one of the original 13 colonies and has loads of history and many many small towns. My neighbors live in a pre-civil war plantation house in the national historical register and the decendents still live there and it is still a working farm.

Hi, there. I live in Summerville, ga. Our population is less than 12,000. Very rural. The Northwest corner of Ga is mostly farmland and small towns. We have a small family farm. (Less than 10 acres) But successfully raise goats, sheep, cows, and a few smaller beasts. Don't see why Alpacas wouldn't thrive. I've seen a few around. Might get a map and study this area and check out some of these friendly towns. Chattanooga, TN is just about an hour or less North of us. (depending on your location at the time) Also, Dalton and Rome, GA are larger with numerous medical facilities. So you have some interesting choices. Good luck.
