Possibly moving to Milton or Johns Creek Georgia from suburb of NYC. 2 elementary school aged kids. Husband works from home, so commute would not be an issue. Looking for opinions about sense of community between the 2 areas and elementary/middle schools that feed into Johns Creek High School, and Milton and/or Cambridge High School. "Close Knit" family oriented neighborhoods?
Does one area have more "transplants" than the other?

You might want to re-post into the Atlanta Sub/Forum.

Milton/JC/Alpharetta, is filled with ReLoc's from All over, Lots from NY / NJ.

We are in Milton. The population of the city is less than half that of John's Creek, and the neighborhoods are not separated by 4+ lane roads, so it does seem to have more of a community feel.

Schools are very good in both areas, traffic is more of an issue in JC, but there is also more shopping in that area. We drive to Alpharetta, 5 minutes away to find everything we need.

Many neighborhoods here have social activities.

Do you know anything about the new Cambridge High School? Do you think it will rate similarly to Milton high school? Also, from what I'm seeing, there are 2 middle schools (Northwestern and Hopewell) that feed into both of those high schools? Would you suggest one over the other?

I would say Cambridge is equal to Milton, JC.

I wouldn't worry about Cambridge, I've only heard positive things so far. However, there have been many complaints about the administration and issues with bullying at Hopewell among my circle of acquaintances. My understanding is that they have removed the principal in response, so the outlook is positive.

We are zoned to Northwestern, and I only have good things to report based on our experience.

I've actually heard about the issues at Hopewell. I'm wondering if it would be smart to try to stay within the Northwestern zone. What about elementary schools? Any thoughts/feelings would be appreciated!

We moved here when my youngest was entering middle school, so I don't have personal experience with the elementaries, but I have never heard anything negative at all about the Northwestern feeder schools. I know Crabapple Crossing, Birmingham Falls, and Cogburn Woods are zoned for Northwestern.

I see a lot of good reviews about Autrey Mill Middle and Johns Creek High. Any insight we can get would be great...We're looking for that "small town feel", and I don't know enough about that part of Johns Creek compared to Milton.
Also proximity to a reform Jewish Synogogue is somewhat important, but not the deciding factor in our decision.
