Hey everyone! I'm the original poster of this. And to answer my question: Nope. No bad areas in any of the towns. We came down over Thanksgiving and again this past weekend. FELL IN LOVE!!! From the drive over the mountain to Rising Fawn/Trenton from Chickamauga, to the Chickamauga Battlefield, we were thrilled. I have decided I need to work in the book store at the museum over at the battlefield. Anyone have any connections? :-) Love that place. I am a big history buff so the whole area is right up my alley. Even our daughters are ready to move. I sincerely hope I can meet you guys sometime after we move. We will be coming that way around the first of June. Actually, we will be back down there at the end of this month hopefully to put down some $$$ on a house. Obviously, we are trying to move quick. We feel really good about our decision to move down there. We are good 'ol WV hillbillies (living in NC) still looking for a place to call home. Think we found it in GA. :-) Thanks to all of you for your help. Any other info you guys think of that you want to share, lay it on me. I have a big file with all of my stuff for Walker and Dade County, GA. Thanks again! Angie

We live in NC and it has s high cost of living and our town has been taken over by illegal immigrants so that is a big factor in where we look. Not racist really but if I wanted to live in Mexico, I would. Much cheaper there, I here.

Our duaghters are of course upset about the thought of leaving friends but the HOPE scholarship sounds wonderful. Nothing like that here. Is it hard for kids to fit in at school? I would worry about that. My girls are A students and would like it to stay that way, very pretty and nice, and would worry if they left friends and we moved down there and they were "outsiders"....any thoughts?

Also, I found some places in Rising Fawn and Chickamauga that were priced great ($50 - 80k) which is unheard of here in NC. How easy is it to find a place to rent (nice doublewide would be fine) or lease/purchase? We are having trouble selling ours like the rest of the world I guess so will need to rent it out. Anyone know of a really nice real estate agent to work with down there?

Any information ya'll could give me would be great. Thanks so much for listening and I look forward to talking to you all soon!
You should know the grading scale in Georgia is different than NC, much easier 90 to 100 A 80 to 90 B We always kept our kids on the NC scale because that is what all schools go by else where. We moved our kids a lot and the older they get the harder it is. How old are yours?

Thanks for the post. I shared your info with the family and the girls are now thrilled with the grading system down there although, you are right, need to keep them on the higher scale. Our girls are 15 (will be in 10th this summer/fall) and 11 (will be in 6th). Both are straight A students, thank the Lord, and are really good girls. We are looking for a church to go to as well. We are Baptist and would love a really good youth group for the girls to become involved in. This will be the 3rd move for the girls. And the last. They are looking forward to it though with Gordon Lee Schools being so much smaller than they are used to. HS here has 1000+ and elementary has 700+. Hope I do not offend, but we have a lot of illegals here which makes some things difficult. Overall, we are really thrilled with what we found in Walker County and are looking at some properties in Chickamauga. I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason so I am sure things are going to fall right into place. We have been praying about it. Well, thanks again for the info and feel free to share anything else you may think of. Its really appreciated.

I'm just really curious as to why there are so many sexual offenders in Chickamauga? This seems like a lot for such a small town.I would never have thought! Can this be right???

A big thank you to all of you who helped me with the information we needed to make some decisions. It is official......we will be moving to the town of Chickamauga. Just finalizing the deal right now. We will be down at the beginning of June. We are so excited! Even our kids are thrilled now. So again, thank you to all of you for your input. You live in a wonderful place and we cannot wait to call it home. Thank you for making us feel welcome every time we come down. Hope to meet you all!!!

Sincerely,

Angie

We are also coming up at the end of march to look around. From what little we have heard and seen of the area on the internet it's what we may be looking for.
