The BR Ingles is about the nicest grocery store I've been in. Certainly nicer than any Publix I've frequented in Atlanta. I cannot imagine the area can support both an Ingles and a Publix.

OK! Found this on Wikipedia:
Publix has operations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

In 2012, Publix announced they would open stores in Charlotte, North Carolina, the first in the state. Publix also said they are already looking to expand within the state. The first North Carolina store is slated to open sometime in 2014.
Publix does not have any stores in North Carolina yet. They recently started its Charlotte Division at the start of the year, their fifth division, consisting of stores in North Carolina, all South Carolina stores except Beaufort and Jasper counties, and all Augutsa-Richmond County, Georgia area stores. Seven stores in North Carolina have been announced.

I love that Ingles serves smaller markets where the larger chains won't go. They have had great success out of their previous mountain markets. The one in my hometown of Hogansville is excellent, my elderly mother prefers it to the Publix and Kroger in LaGrange and only having to drive 3 miles vs. 18 to a nice store is a huge benefit for her. I've even heard of LaGrange residents driving to Hogansville to shop at the Ingles. That is a snowball staying frozen in hell moment in itself.

My biggest problem with the grocery stores in Ellijay are their complete lack of common courtesy! It would be a blessing to have a Publix in the area! Along with being able to have a good butcher shop would be a joy! Ingles calms to have the best meats in town, well I guess so when all you're in competition with is Walmart!
But even then, I'm beginning to think Walmart has the better choice!
