Default Need info on Decatur......

I'm an Atlanta native that is looking to buy my first home. I have found several listings in Decatur, right around Oakhurst, that I like and can afford. Some parts of this area worry me a little, but from the people I've talked to living in these neighborhoods, it sounds like Decatur is rapidly changing. Does anyone have any information on Decatur, especially the OakHurst, White Oak area? Crime? People? Events?

Appreciate it!

Randall

This post really should have been posted in the Atlanta forum, as opposed to the general Georgia forum. FWIW, Oakhurst is a great neighborhood in a great town (Decatur). As far as crime, people, and events...Decatur has tons of events and fairs that make living hear a pleasure. The people you will meet are friendly, but then again, I find that true of most people in Atlanta. As for crime, Oakhurst has come a long way. I don't see it as having a crime problem, and the many young professionals who have moved to the area would probably agree. That said, you will still find a few dilapidated apartment complexes that might make you uncomfortable if you are overly concerned about potential criminals in the neighborhood. I can tell you this though...the City of Decatur police department is great, and if you ever have a concern, they respond very fast.

Thanks for the response, and I did mean to post this in the Atlanta forum. The house I'm looking at is right outside Oakhurst by one block. I would be 2.2 miles from Decatur square, but still outside the City of Dectur. You're exactly correct regarding the occasional apartment complex, and that is the case for White Oak. I see really nice changes in the neighborhood, and hope this continues. Thanks again....
