No, you're right in that assessment. It's basically a smaller version of Cooks Warehouse in Atlanta. It sounds like your orientation is more towards housewares.
I really think you're on to something.
Here are some suggestions as far as well trafficked retail space:

Redfern Village
Retreat Village
Shops of Sea Island
Longview Plaza

Thanks! I'll check them out.

I see the Downtown Brunswick questions keep getting skirted in terms of answers. Is that a way of saying "avoid"...????

I thought you'd pick up on that.
For what you want to do, Im not quite sure that downtown is quite 'there' yet. They've made great strides, but in terms of disposable income, youve got more of a built in market on SSI.

As I suspected.... Thanks!

I agree with Lovin; as a destination, downtown has made GREAT strides. But it's not going to get the traffic that a well-placed store on SSI would (or even the mall).

After you're there and established, however, downtown may be one place to consider for expansion. It's really quite charming and has worlds of potential.

I am a south Georgia native, raised up about 70 miles west of Brunswick. Don't know all that much about the city, but Jekyll Island is awesome. My ex-wife and I (we're on good terms, long story) went from Delaware back to south Georgia late September and early October of this year to visit my mom, stayed in Waycross, but rented a suite for one night at the Days Inn on Jekyll Island, and it was just perfect. Very nice weather without the midsummer blistering heat and humidity, and almost no vacationers. Pat liked it so much she's already lobbying for us and some of the kids to go back next year. As far as locating a business venture, I agree that St. Simons Island would probably be a prime location for a business, although I admit that I don't know what the criteria is for opening a business in that general area. You have to have money to live on Jekyll Island, but St. Simons is a bit more upper-crusty, you need some serious money for property there.

Default Downtown Brunswick

Downtown Brunswick is making some intense strides in the last couple of years. The "First Friday" is driving more and more locals and visitors into town year-round. A few new restaurants and shops have been helping as well. It is charming. It is quaint. It is getting more so each day. I know one little boutique (children's) that opened about 3 years ago has been doing very well and saw that it recently expanded with a 2nd shop on the island (Redfern I think). Higher end and nice since not really offered anywhere else around town. The main problem I have seen with the shops downtown is lack of visibility (NO internet presence) and the old school want of closing by 5pm. Just my .02!

I am just back from a visit to St. Simons and Brunswick. I really wanted to like Brunswick but couldn't help but fall in love with St. Simons Island.
