Hi!

My fiancee and I are considering moving to Georgia--but we have no idea where to start! I'm an LPN and he is an electrician. We have no children and no commitments... We really aren't leaving anything behind. I am 20, and he is 30. We both love the outdoors, but don't really care for "night life." We love going to see movies, so a movie theatre is a must!

Our other desires are:

Many RENTAL properties to choose from
Enough space to have a large garden (So nothing downtown)
A pet-friendly area (some place with a dog park, in case there's no fenced-in yard)
A smaller town--we don't want to live near a major city, so Atlanta's out! :P

Where should we start looking? If possible, please include the reasons you feel a certain town would suit us best (:

Thanks so much for your help!

I would also like to add that we detest Walmart, and have no desire to live near one.

You are starting. You chose GA for whatever reasons you developed.

Not close to a Walmart? What does that mean? 100 feet? 1000? 10 miles?

I recommend you search Athens on this forum and see what has been said about it. Wages are low here but we do have a lot of medical stuff here. I think you might like Watkinsville area which is in Oconee County, a bedroom community for Athens.

Good luck.

Here, in Omaha, you have the opportunity to basically have a Walmart in your backyard. We really hate that idea... So not within walking distance of Walmart? Preferably a town where I can grocery shop in a place that isn't Walmart!

I have researched Athens and I like it quite a bit. I haven't looked in Watkinsville, so I'll check that out. Thanks!

Not a problem here in Athens. Lots of subdivisions in the region with shopping mostly concentrated but also convenient. I think this area is one of the most balanced in terms of amenities, taxes and overall cost of living. With no kids, Clarke County is a winner. With kids and school needs, then Oconee County is the way to go.
