My husband and I are interested in moving to Kennesaw from Davie, FL.
What do you think about the area? How are the people? What about jobs? I have a Master's in Accounting and currently work as a Cost of Sales Analyst for a telecommunications company and my husband runs a small construction business down here. We were both born and raised in Hollywood, FL. We moved to Port Saint Lucie, FL and bought a house 3 years ago. I just graduated with my Master's Degree and found that Port St. Lucie did not have to many entry level accounting positions available. The majority were offering $10 an hour.... So we rented our house out and moved back south and rented a house in Davie. We really want to buy a house and start a family. But, We can't do both down here! It is way to expensive to live and we wouldn't have any breathing room. If we did stay down here all we can afford are townhouses and condos and we want a house with land. I would love to hear your opinions... |

Hi there,
We moved from Cooper City to Woodstock (very close to Kennesaw) last January. The one thing that is the mantra on the Atlanta boards, is live near work, or work near where you live. Traffic is horrific here and all the land and new house won't mean anything if you are in constant traffic. Think 595 East or West backed up everyday with an accident and you'll know Atl traffic. Tell us a little of your price range so we can help you narrow it down some. I can tell you that even with the GA state income tax, our HOI and taxes are so much lower that we come out a little ahead. I find the food in Publix a tad higher here, but gas is a few cents cheaper. The people are much more friendly (except for on the road) Good luck! |

How do you like where you are? We aren't looking to move until the middle to end of 2008. Our price range is $150,000 to $200,000. I have seen many houses in this range and they are beautiful!! We would really like to a house with atleast an acre..

My family will be relocating in or around cartersville. My husband is already down there working. I am trying to do as much research as possible from up north where to buy a house... I need personal input. He will be driving to Atlanta once a week but working around the White area. I have one middle schooler(1 more yr) and need a great school but friendly neighborhood! This last transfer has not gone well we have been here 4 yrs ! unsocialable people they have the all about ME issues. We have moved 3 other times and this will be our last and i want it to be a happy ever after....Kennesaw seems to rate high on the schools. Any input would be greatly appreciated.. hard ot look in a dozen communities for a house I need to narrow the search.
thank you |

Welcome! Before anything ... I am a Realtor! I just wanted to give you some input. We are in Marietta because of the school system ... East Cobb seems to have the best quoted schools, better than West Cobb where Kennesaw is ... Check the website (Cobb County School District Home Page) compare the scores, the SAT etc ... and find out. And the best is to visit the schools to have a "feel" ... Kennesaw and Marietta are great places to live. Nice, clean, friendly and lots of activities. The market is great... a lot of good opportunities in great neighborhood! Good luck!

Thank you patricia for the info. We are looking in Kennesaw because we saw the median household income is $70k vs. Marietta at $43k woodstock at $60k and acworth at $54k. We don't have any kids at this time and don't plan on having any for a few more years. I am more interested in making the most money possible and getting my career started. Since you are a realtor you might want to check out our website: home-flip.com it is a free real estate classified.
Would you say that Kennesaw has alot of transplants? Could the area possibly double in value within the next couple of years? Julie |

I actually live in Canton at the moment and I love it. We're moving 50 miles away to be closer to my family but I will miss Canton. We had bought a cozy Ranch 2 yrs ago and I love the neighborhood. We're selling our house for $155K to give you an idea of the cost. You mention that you are interested in the household income which is great but if you can live somewhere less expensive and make that amount, then you are better off. That is reason why we moved to Canton to begin with. Good Luck!

I am hearing mixed stories about the schools in Kennesaw... Some say thay are good and some say they are bad... What's the deal? Anything would be better than the schools in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Right?

People are really, really nice in GA. I have been on some other threads but saw this and had to add my two cents.......My hubby was just in Kennesaw and said it seemed to be a nice area. We are looking at farther north GA, just south of Chattanooga so don't know much about Kennesaw. However, I will say that we met more nice people in Georgia (and we went from Augusta, down to Cochran, and up to LaFayette) than I have anywhere else we have lived. We came up this way, NC, from WPB, FL. Could not wait to get out of there. Anyway, just had to let you know that you will not be dissapointed in the friendliness of the folks you will meet in GA. Even the kids working the drive thrus were nice. Could not believe it! What a refreshing change from here. Looking forward to us moving down there over the summer. Much luck to you in finding your dream area.

Babeejulss,
In response to "Would you say that Kennesaw has alot of transplants? Could the area possibly double in value within the next couple of years?" Kennesaw has lots of transplants, as does much of the metro Atlanta area. I wouldn't anticipate real estate values doubling here over the next few years. We have had a steady growth market here, unlike FL and other parts of the country that did and are now experiencing pricing issues. Cobb schools are good, some rate higher than others. That is true of any school disctict. Check out, http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/ click on School Finder by county and it will give you a good view of of the districts. As a realtor the question of good schools always comes up, even couples with no children thinking of resale. It is best to research as much as you can and when you feel you have narrowed it down, make the time to visit the schools, talk with administrators and get a personal view for yourself. My last transplanted FL clients found this to work for them. Best Wishes |
