Columbus would be nice, it's about 1.5 hours from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. If you decide to live in the northern suburbs of Columbus, you will only be about an hour away. Columbus has all the amenities of a big city but without the hassles.

I totally agree. Columbus is blessed with big city amenities. Places like the RiverCenter, Columbus Civic Center, and Springer Opera House provide excellent entertainment options. If you can't find it in Columbus, Atlanta is only 90 miles north.

I really think you would enjoy living in the Athens area (especially since you are from Europe), Athens is one of the most progressive cities in Georgia.. with a downtown with a very European feel (lots of open air cafes, independent bookstores, pubs, independent coffee houses, etc... if you have school aged kids consider buying in neighboring Oconee county.

Contact me if you wind up in Columbus. I myself am coming from a couple of years in Europe and find the states hard to adjust to (although I'm native). I will help you with anything I can.

Default South side of Atlanta is less congested

The airport is only 25 minutes from where I live in Peachtree City. It does have 34,000 people, but it has a small town feel to it. I know more people here after only 5 months than I did living in New York for the first 41 years of my life. You can visit my website to view homes anywhere in Georgia. www.lisabyer.com Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you.
