If you need to be near Savannah then Columbia or Richmond County are out of the question as they are 2 and half hours or more northwest. Chatham county is pretty large and diverse.. you will find some bad crime areas.. but you will also find nicer areas like Wilmington and Skidaway Islands. The Historic district is absolutely lovely, but very expensive.. and anyway Savannah is fairly small so you don't have to live in the historic district to enjoy its beauty. Also consider Effingham County. Pooler is also a good choice as well as Port Wentworth. Schools are going to vary depending on the neighborhood. Overall Chatham county public schools don't rank high.. but it sounds like Catholic school is an option for you. I would suggest posting in The Savannah forumn to get better info on various neighborhoods and schools from the locals.

As you can see, you can't listen to the hype. This article talks about columbia county residents moving into richmond. Some of these residents move to columbia county, but are now moving back to richmond. This is a mom who took her kids out of columbia county schools and put them in richmond county schools.

RICHMOND TO COLUMBIA, COLUMBIA TO RICHMOND
2000-01 1,366........... 1,063
2001-02 1,519...........1,005
2002-03 1,486.........1,077
2003-04 1,672...........1,057
nothing but reversed flight. So as you can see people found out the grass is not always greener on the other side. Now you can go back to your discussion. Looking for home i have back my facts up. One is a city, one is a suburb.

Columbia County has gained 16,000 new residents in the ast 6 years alone... in that same period Richmond County has lost 6,000 residents. A quick check at www.census.gov will reveal this FACT. There may be some people who have moved from Columbia County to Richmond.. but it is clearly evident by the population figures that many more people are moving from Richmond County to Columbia County.. this has been a trend for the last 30 years. You can say whatever you want.. but facts are facts.. You may not like the facts.. but it doesn't make them any less true. People come here for facts.. not someone's warped sense of reality.

No current census figures has Richmond County's population at 200,000
The official pop for Augusta-Richmond County balance (excluding Hephzibah and Blythe) is 189,366
if you include Hephzibah and Blythe (which are seperate cities) then you get a pop 194,398

http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet...rd=&_industry=
The above links are the census figures for Richmond County and Augusta-Richmond County balance since 2000... notice how the numbers have dropped..
Now lets look at the same time period for Columbia County
http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet...rd=&_industry=
You will see that in just six years.. Columbia County has gained over 17,000 new residents..
I don't know why this is so difficult for you to understand.. Do you normally have this much trouble with basic math?

RJM1969,
Please don't be shy about posting your questions in a new thread. That's really the best way to attract the folks from the areas you're interested in.
I know from the answers I received to some questions I posed a while back (about vacations) that there are some very nice and helpful on this list who know a LOT about Savannah and areas around there.
All the best in your move,
zebbie
