Relocating from Connecticut to Cumming, GA in the next 2 to 3 months. We visited West Forsyth HS and loved it. We were not able to get to South Forsyth HS but hear great things about it. I know both are great schools but are there benefits of one over the other? This would greatly help us narrow down our home search.

South Forsyth is better in terms of Academics, but West Forsyth is still considered to be decent. You will find more help if you post all Forsyth related threads in the Atlanta section!

Both West Forsyth and South Forsyth high schools are excellent schools.

The best way for you to decide which school is best is for you to visit both schools in person and decide which school is best for you and your family.

This is a good comment.

Because Cumming and Forsyth County is a suburb of Atlanta and is considered to be part of metro Atlanta, you may get more replies and more help if you post this in the Atlanta forum.

Back in spring 2011, we looked everywhere (East Cobb, N. Fulton) and decided on Forsyth county and eventually bought in the West Forsyth feeder zone. We are happy with the location and with the schools. Our 4 kids currently attend West Forsyth HS (2), Vickery Middle (1) and Kelly Mill Elementary (1).

One of our neighbor's kid is a high academic achiever, she attends South because of the IB classes (more advanced than AP). If I heard correctly, I think South is the only school in Forsyth county with IB classes (iin addition to AP classes). Our neighbor's daughter prefers the newness of West Forsyth HS but loves the challenges of her rigorous classes at South.

The only concern that came to my attention recently is both high schools are over capacity. But I think this is true for all good school districts in atlanta and surrounding areas.

Forsyth School passed Bond Issue to Build a 6th HS (schd to open in 2018) , and do classroom additions to the other 5 (If i remember correctly)

Where the 6th HS will be is the big question Mark, District want to put it somewhere near Midway Elem School but they don't own the land. The do own land for a HS north east of the Lake.

outh Forsyth High School is a public high school, built in 1989, located in Cumming, Georgia, a suburb northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. It is 1 of 5 high schools in the Forsyth County School District, and serves students residing in parts of Cumming, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Suwanee. In 2010, South Forsyth High School was ranked #199 on Newsweek's "Top High Schools in America" publication.
