Hello!
My husband and I are relocating our jobs to around Lake Lanier. Our kids live in Franklin, NC so our goal is to be closer to, not on top of, them. Being from Michigan we never had the opportunity to enjoy the lakes as much as we would've liked so living near 'some' water is ideal.

Our searches for the past 6 months in preparation have led us to the following cities: Flowery Branch, Buford, Gainesville, Cumming and Sugar Hill. We're going to be visiting those areas the first week of June to see what they look like, city/rual, small town/big town, etc.

My questions lie more in areas that are safest, family friendly (we'll have our Grandkids a lot), best for lake access/enjoyment, not high crime, etc.

Any gems as far as areas I didn't mention that I've not been considering? We will be renting so we can try one city for a year and if we don't like it we can move, but we will be looking to buy eventually once we settle on a city!

Thanks!

I highly recommend Gainesville. Good size city with plenty of shopping and restaurants. It sits right on Lake Lanier. They have a nice downtown too. Can't go wrong with Gainesville.
