You would think that retail stores like Target (which I love) could see that a store would do very well here considering the lack of major retail and that this is a growing area as far as houses are concerned. I think if one big store would come others would soon follow. It certainly happened in parts of Greenville where I am from.

No the McMansion are not selling, and they probably won't. I don't know what goes through the heads of these developers, but there just isn't enough attractive quality in the houses or in Jackson County for this many people to want to move into these houses.

The Redd House - Seafood Rest. Update I have been to this rest twice in the past few weeks and it has been a great experience. They have an excellent menu. If you like seafood, this is the place to go and its close by.

Default Jobs in Jefferson, GA?

I was just wondering what types of jobs are available in Jefferson, GA? We are looking to move to the Athens area and I'm trying to see what is available in a 30 mile radius...TIA!

I don't know what your job interest is but from my experience there are no jobs for me in Jefferson or the general surrounding areas. I am a dental assistant who has been here for about 5 months and I have found nothing. I have applied for various clerical positions with no luck. Most of the jobs I have applied for have been out of Jefferson since the town is so small. If you are moving to Athens look at Athens Banner Herald online classifieds to see what the job market is for your job interest. Good Luck!

OK let's see, shall we all meet up at the Publix when it opens...LOL.

I live off of Ethridge and 129 bi-pass next to the Shields-Ethridge Heritage Farm, I have 10 acres (for sale) so PM me if you are interested.

Jackson Co. doesn't have the infrastructure to support all the new homes going up. The year before the last local elections the BOC approved 82 new subdivisions they have since been voted out of office mostly for the fiasco the perpertrated with the new Court House. These new SD's are still being developed and built. I work in the real estate industry as a title examiner for a law firm and we are all sweating the slump.

The only jobs in the county are working for the county! Low paying, but you can go to the Admin building downtown and check the board...jobs always posted.

As far as skilled jobs...it's Athens but you'll be competing with the student population, there is also Gainesville. Or you can hump it down I85, if you can get flex hours the commute isn't too bad.

Fine dining - try the Carriage House on old 129...some friends own it, I've only eaten lunch there but it's nice to eat on linen and have real utensils, plates and glasses instead of paper and plastic!

Also, there's a new Chinese place in the new stip mall on old 129 and just down the road is a fairly good mexican place.

Funny so many on the GA board have gravitated to Jefferson.

These posts have been most helpful, as I am thinking about moving to either the Winder or Jefferson area. Can anyone tell me which road has worse traffic - 316 or 85 - when heading toward ATL? Thanks!

Personally, I prefer 85. The red lights on 316 can really slow things down. 85 isn't bad except during peak hours. The new interchange at 316 has helped out a little. The only drawback is if there is an accident on 85, but then I try to hop off and use 124 as an alternate.

We are relatively new to Jefferson as well and live in River Mist by the new Kroger. We love it in Jefferson and have no complaints.

Actually, we have recently started a forum for the neighborhood and welcome anyone and everyone to take a look. Right now, most of the topics are related to our neighborhood, but will probably expand it to other neighborhoods in the area if there is interest. Also, I plan on having topics relating to things around Jefferson (restaurants, news, etc.) when I have a chance to add those. Feel free to stop by and give us any suggestions of what you would like to see there.

Default Jefferson is an amazing place to live!

My name is Stephanie Hernandez. I'm a Real Estate Professional with Millard Bowen Communities. Just recently, I have been transferred here to Jefferson City and can't believe what a fantastic community it is! This place has a relaxing small town feel but you can be anywhere you need within 5 to 30 minutes. The scenery is beautiful and the schools are highly regaurded.

It truly is a wonderful place to call Home!

Check out my website if you'd like to see some of our available homes here in quickly selling Jameston Place. Fantastic Ranch and 2 Story homes begining in the $150's

Or if you might enjoy Gainesville, Check out Heritage Pointe!
