Mactown_georgia_boy you're not oging to win that, there are people on this site that devote there whole lives to ridin on the little problems in Macon, for example Peelo. He wakes up thinking what he can do to ruin the reputation, and go to sleep wondering why no one listen's to him. Then tries to threat me over the net, so he can seem big and bad, when he's just a child behind a monitor! Im so scared, NOT.

ROTFLMBO!!
Now THAT is funny!
I told you, if you are going to say anything, at least tell the truth. You can paint a picture of Macon as all rosey all you want, but the truth is that it is a dump.
And nobody threatened you......LOL...I simply said that you seem to be a big talker and I gave you my number so when you got ready to be a man and speak that way to me face to face, then you could give me a call. Thats not a threat...LOL

Macon is not and will not be a second suburb of Atlanta. It is distinctly seperate from Atlanta. It has its own economy. Some people may commute from macon to Atlanta to work daily ( I can't imagine why ) but certainly not enough to make Macon part of metro Atlanta.
Just like someone said.. if Macon is another suburb of Atlanta then so is Chattanooga, Columbus, Rome, and Athens.
Actually there is a case for Athens.. they get all of their local TV from Atlanta.. so ppl in Athens are more aware of what's happening in Atlanta and feel more connected to it.
Most all of the second tier cities have grown about as much as they ever will. YOu are not going to see a second metropolis in Georgia. It just won't happen.

I completly agree with that there are about five markets in Georgia competing with each other. Macon, Savannah, Augusta, Athens and Albany are all competing for some of the same industries. But i really doubt there will be another lare metropolis! Also I didnt try to include Macon in the Atlanta suburbs, if your read the first post you would understand this is just what the Human Relation Department of the Southeast Coast League (the minor league organization) stated, its was hilarious and I figured I shared the laughter with you all.

Don't take people serious who want to give threats over the internet. If people are that eager to have a face-to-face interaction with a person then they can go outside and get at random people.

Like I've said before with all metros you have the good and the bad.
Peelo said you cant paint Macon as ALL rosey, well you cant paint Macon as ALL bad either. It's both, depending on where you are, which can be said for pretty much anywhere. I feel very safe in my clean Macon neighborhood thats actually IN THE CITY LIMITS.

Atlanta only has a tad bit more of sprawl to go before it bumps into Macon though...Monroe County....can any one see the sprawl reaching Monroe Co. any time soon?

As I said...it wasnt a threat. I typed that slow so I wouldnt have to say it again.

I think the sprawl will reach Monroe in the next 6 years. Henry county is overcrowded and the local government isnt doing much to keep the growth positive. So it wont be long before Monroe will be booming. Its already catching ALOT of Henry county overflow, but in the next few years, its going to go full force.

I drive through Macon at least 6 times a year, for the last 18 years, and have stopped to visit the antebellum homes, eat, and spend the night. I always thought it was a lovely town with excellent food, friendly people, and quite a bit of culture for a town its size.
Every town has its problems, ya wanna see some, come to my neck of the woods, the Cuban Mafia is taking over this area for drug ops! I havent read anything like that happening there, and I read your paper all the time, along with other papers in the southeast.

There is some good to Macon. North Macon is nice...Has some nice developments...and yes, there are some developers spending some big money in the hopes of bringing it back to where it was before Ellis tore it apart, and some of those developers are good friends of mine. I will tell you like I have told them.....the vast majority of what they are doing isnt going to fly.
One developer has spent over $500 million on Harley Bridge Rd. development. That is crazy!! The vast majority of it will sit stagnant for YEARS!! Both Byron and Warner Robins are too close and have VERY good schools....trust me, it`ll take years to fill out.
The best place in Macon will be on out Riverside heading toward Jones county and around Arkwright....there will be growth there and there will be plenty of money to be made. But what Mayor (and it seems others) dont understand is this....a mall doesnt make a city. Nobody is out there going "HEY!! Lets move to Macon because they are building a new mall!!" or "Dont we want to live in Macon because it has museums and decent shopping!!" All those things will bring visitors, but not citizens.
I mean, take a drive down Martin Luther King Drive.....Crackheads and drunks...Drive almost anywhere downtown on any given day...same thing. Go to Terminal Station...same thing. These things are what makes Macon look bad. The mayor fired the best chance Macon had of keeping the crime at bay in his first term.
Thats why I dont even venture into Macon at all anymore....it truly is a shell of its former self....

yea, i know don't you hate it how the atlanta news stations think everything in a 85-mile radius from atlanta is part of atlanta? like for example, i was watching channel 2 action news this morning on the weather and Karen Minton(who i can't stand by the way) said"there are some thunderstorms on the southside of Atlanta right now" and guess were the thunderstorms were in TROUP COUNTY near Lagrange and Greenville, i was like what the hell that ain't south atlanta that's not even the atlanta metro area.
