Birmingham kinda seemed similar to Atlanta in some ways, so I doubt anyone in Atlanta would have a reason to visit Birmingham besides visiting family. If anything, I guess it's the Alabama people who come to Atlanta for their needs. Even Montgomery, which is smaller than Birmingham, isn't terribly far from Atlanta. As for Mississippi, I guess it's so far from Georgia that most never think of it or have any reasons to visit besides driving through on the way to New Orleans or Texas. I guess to wrap up, it seems like Georgia has more ties/similarities with the Carolinas than Alabama/Mississippi.

Maybe people in Chambers or Cleburne County, but I don't see why anyone else would.

Despite what you see, it's a lot more likely that people from Alabama would visit Georgia than the other way around. Georgia is more of a destination, unlike Alabama.

Atlanta and Birmingham are similar, but there's also a difference in 4 million people in the metro area (or more). Major airport, 3 top 4 sports teams, lots of other stuff.

Atlanta is the reason for that. I mean who wouldn't wanna check out a large city that is only 2-2.5 hrs away? You have a small amount of people who swear they don't want nothing to do with Atlanta, but yet they are the first to take advantage of what the city offers.

That's what I was trying to explain to southernnaturelover, who seems to think nearly no one does.

Well ill admit that I'm in Atlanta a few times a year, and I enjoy for what it is. Birmingham has alot to offer for a city its size if one puts forth the effort to look.

Maybe it's because I'm down near the coast, but I don't personally know anyone who goes to Atlanta except to pass through it. Its just too far away to go for something like shopping. Like I said, in some AL counties it may be more convenient, but for me it's not.

Heck, I'm only 2 hours from New Orleans and I seldom feel the "need" to go there either.

I know several people form Mobile who visit Atlanta a few times a year or who have moved here.
