Moving to Dunwoody...need help!!!!!!!
Hello,
I'm in the process of moving to Georgia for grad sch at Georgia State and i'm on a very tight budget (rent: $600-700 range) but do want to live in a safe neighborhood. I won't be driving so i'm hoping to find a place of commutable distance from GSU and one decent enough but close to MARTA as i intend to rely on public transportation. I'm looking at areas closest to this address: 4400 N Peachtreee Rd (First Baptist Church) because i intend to attend church services there but aren't sure whether the neighborhood is that safe. I know there are apartments across the street from the church but i can't remember the name to look it up and on top of that i need more information about the neighborhood. Please let me know of any advice/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

--'Moving to Dunwoody'
--4400 North Peachtree Rd
--Attending GSU
--Seeking apartment for $600-700/mo
--Easy access to MARTA
--Safe neighborhood
If you plan to live near the church, imo, you will be living in Chamblee/Doraville--in one of the more crime plagued neighborhoods. Unless someone at the church knows of safe housing I would not consider living here.
I suppose it is convenient to the Chamblee and Doraville MARTA stations and it might be within you budget for rent.
This is not 'Dunwoody'.

The problem is, anything close to MARTA that's safe is going to be substantially more than $600-700/month. You've either got to increase your rent, buy a car, or find a roommate.

This isn't really accurate. First Baptist Church is most certainly in Dunwoody and if you don't believe me, check out www.thecrier.net and see the contraversy involving the church clear cutting 5 acres in Dunwoody for parking. The church is surrounded by apartment complexes on two of four sides (one side is I-285) and they are ok, though not great. They are certainly not crime ridden.
That said, your budget isn't high enough for that area -- even the less nice complexes --unless you get a roommate. Additinally, you will be relying on the bus and that runs less frequently than trains (but you won't be within walking distance to a train station.

My mistake.
North Peachtree is a long and winding road.
