Default Cumming vs Duluth

I have been living in Florida and have had it with hurricanes. I like the mountains but need to be near shopping etc. Any recomendations. Lake Lanier area seems to look good. Will be going at Christmas time to look around. Thanks for any info.

What is your definition of shopping? Big-box chains? Specialty boutiques? Low-end? High-end? Closed-in malls? Outdoor shopping?

You will see plenty of big-box chains in both Cumming / Duluth, and your options are vast if you are merely looking for everyday necessities. For specialty boutiques and high-end clothing, you may have to drive in a little.

I am looking for good schools. Things to do for kids. Close to grocery stores and gas stations. I don't want to be in the middle of no where but, I am tired of being so close to neighbors. Looking for maybe an acre of property with home. I use to live in Lilburn years ago and heard it is tight there. How far is the Lake Lanier area from Atlanta. I can't remember it has been a long time. All I know is I miss the trees and space between houses. I hate living in hurricane alley. I enjoy the outdoor shopping. I heard the Discovery Mall is great. What do you think?
