I moving to Athens GA from Texas due to employment. I am going to contact a realtor and go to Athens in the next few weeks but I started to look online to get a feel for what housing is like out in Athens. I found two houses in our price range (mid to low 200k) that I like, but both are in falling shoals. Can anyone tell me what that community is like or recommend other communities. I am working near the university. Schooling wouldn't be an issue but I would like to be zoned for decent schools for resale. My understanding is public schools in Athens aren't so great to begin with. Thanks for any and all input.

I assume you are talking about the development at the intersection of Whit Davis and Barnett Shoals. I used to live very close to there. I think Whit Davis elementary is among the better of the Clarke county schools, which are OK but not highly ranked. (Athens residents seeking better schools move to neighoring Oconee county, but you dont want to do that at this point. The distances are much greater from Oconee county to UGA area.) I have driven thru Falling Shoals, and it is pretty good, The entire area around Whit Davis elementary is quite residential and nice. The only negative I would say is that you can buy in that area at lower price points (under 200K). I am not sure how the sales activity has been in that area, and what the price point is.

I have since relocated out of Athens, but I still have property (rent 1100/mo, buy 150K) that I own close to Whit Davis elementary. I will send you a direct message in case you are interested in renting or buying.
