Nice to see a retailer like J Crew coming to downtown Athens.

The CVS is offering full pharmacy service, health, beauty and personal care products, grocery items, general merchandise and digital photo service. It is expected to open in 2016.
International clothing retailer J. Crew has leased 6,000 square feet on the Clayton Street side of Georgia Heights, while a Dress Up Boutique, which was founded in Dahlonega, will be just downstairs on Broad Street. D.P. Dough is a new-to-Athens restaurant which delivers “ooey, gooey, cheesy happiness through delicious, custom-made calzones,” as its website touts.
Georgia Heights, a six-story, 292-bed, amenity-filled, mid-rise collegiate community, is on schedule for its opening this summer.

J Crew is a good fit for downtown Athens I guess, but kinda expensive for the average college kid don't you think? I don't even bother going in the one on Broughton Street because I can't afford to buy anything in there.

There are plenty of frat guys in the area to support it

While I'm glad to see downtown Athens thriving, I hope something can be done with the Atlanta Highway corridor.

The amount of wealth in the hands of half the college students at UGA can not be understated.

I thought I came from a fairly well off are and went to college mostly wearing jeans I had from High school and free t-shirts I collected. All of my spending money came from jobs. I found plenty of students there on students loans and the like, but I was amazed by the sheer number of students that had alot handed to them. The amount of students that could afford to go out 3-4 times a week, not have a job, be an expensive frat/sorority, etc.. was unreal to me.

It is also worth noting that many of the boutiques and shops in the area aren't really less expensive.

Yea I noticed this as well. Students with cars worth more than my parents' and they didn't spend a dime on them. In Texas trucks are a big deal and a lot of those turbo-diesels aren't cheap!

Yep, there were always wealthy undergraduates at UGA. It was like that when I attended there 40 years ago, and I met affluent kids from the Atlanta area, Long Island NY, and out west. (It was UGA's grad students, most of them on teaching assistantships, who were on a limited budget.) In the 1970s, a number of undergrads had fancy cars from their parents and lots of spending money -- and fraternity "brothers" were loaded. The UGA student body is even more affluent today, as the university is more academically selective and its undergrads tend to come from ever more affluent families within GA and outside the state. Any J. Crew-type store would've found its clientele even in the 1970s, so now it will find one pretty fast.
