We are looking to relocate from Florida to northwest region of Ga. We are planning a trip to come up and look around but hearing mixed information. We are looking for a town with that small town mentality, excellent educational system and a positive job market. I also want to be able to have acreage to have barnyard animals. Any assistance would be appreciated.

There was recently information about Carrollton on the board. It is a college town so has some shopping and a movie theatre. I can't address school issues, but it is pretty nice if you like small towns. I am staying just north of there temporaril in Haralson county and there is land available that would accommodate animals. The schools in Haralson county don't have a great rep-Carroll counties have better rep.

You're looking for a very delicate balance- the "good job market" in NW GA centers in Atlanta, yet you've got to get pretty far out of Atlanta to get a "small town mentality" and acreage for animals. You could consider areas like Cherokee County or even Bartow County (which has some nice "small town" areas), but you're going to have to accept a potentially long commute.

Default Welcome to NW Georgia

I suggest that you take a look at Cherokee, Pickens and Gilmer County. The towns I suggest are Ball Ground, Jasper, and Ellijay. If you dont mind contacting me with your email adress I can send you lots of info.

Best of luck

You may want to look at Rome, GA. It's well outside metro Atlanta (and closer to the NW corner of the state) but it still is a big enough city to have a wide variety of jobs. Also, you don't have to go too far outside Rome to be able to get some decent priced land. Of course, as with everywhere in north Georgia, the price of land is rising.

LOL..I doubt you'll get that 'small town feeling' in Cherokee county any more. I live in Jasper and have 1.27 acres with a 4 br/ 2bath /2yr. old home. Finished basement with full mountain views. We have it for sale for 218,900.00. email me at denero126@hotmail.com, even if you just want some more help with other areas. I'm not a realtor but have been in Ga. for almost 40 yrs..

I think you would be pleased with areas headed north on I-575 on up to 515 in Pickens and Gilmer Counties. I have a house in the Jasper/Ellijay area, and I love it up there. People are friendly, and it is just a beautiful foothills/mountain area.

Feel free to send me a private message, and I would be happy to assist you!

Check out Walker County and Dade County in extreme NW GA. Wonderful place. As Kats said, great schools (Chickamauga's high school was rated in the top 100 in the country), small towns, tons of country and the people are great!
