I have about 4 acres of land on lookout mountain. Its time for me to start thinking about getting a home. I will be getting married here in about a year. My girlfreind really wants a mobile home. I would almost rather build a home. The only problem is our budget is going to be right around 70,000. Please help me out with some ideas. Can you even build a home for 70k? We just want 3 bedrooms 2 baths thanks for the help.

You could likely build a small, simple home of around 1,000 SF for $70k. The advantage to the house over a mobile home is that houses generally appreciate over time, while mobile homes tend to depreciate like used cars.

Not only that, but to move a mobile up there (depending on where on Lookout and what kind of terrain your acreage consist of) could cost a ton on money.

you asked about --3bedroom,2 bath----and if you could build a house for $70,000--right?

Here is an honest answer------ABSOLUTETLY NOT (unless you hire no labor whatsoever)

Perhaps your girlfriend understands costs more than you.

She may understand costs, but she doesn't understand investment. Buy her a toilet, let her flush the $70 grand. That's what you'll be doing if you buy a mobile home.

Instead I would suggest you buy plans for a simple house which is designed to be expanded later, when you have more money and need the space.
If you ever need to sell, you stand a better chance of getting your money back, or even making a profit, that way.

have you thought about cutting your own trees and building a log starter home ?
I know some of you might be laughing at this idea - but I actually know a couple who chose to do this with property that they bought in South Fulton county. They bought the property then built the small log house themselves .Lived in it for a couple of years then built a much larger home on the property and rented out the small log home . Just a thought ?
