Augusta's economy will do better than the state of georgia in 2007 and 2008. I think you are wrong about augusta. Your article only states columbus will have more jobs than other metro areas thats it. Jobs is just one thing to a growing economy in a city. That should tell you something even though collumbus will have more jobs this year. Augusta still will outpace all georgia cities because of how much construction is going on.
There is $3 billion worth of construction on Fort Benning alone. That is more than all of metro Augusta I am sure.

Dude are you really serious about more than metro augusta. The national intelligence facility at Ft. Gordon will cost over 1 billtion dollars. It will house over 4000 people and bring 1000 jobs. There is a reason why augusta's economy did and will do better than the state in 2007 and 2008.

I think you must haven't driven down I-20 in augusta lately.

That is a drop in the bucket man to what Fort Benning is doing. Fort Gordon can fit in a corner of Fort Benning. It is a small base.

That's only one project taking place at ft. gordon. There is plans to build a mega hospital at ft. gordon because of the iraq war. Even though they have the esienhower facility which is 18 floors already. Most of the people who get hurt in iraq. And live in the southeast get treated in augusta. You notice the people who got burnt at the savannah factory about 2 days ago. All got flown to augusta for their injuries. The majority of columbus growth is happening on a military base ft. benning. Majority of augusta's growth is happening downtown and I-20/520.

How big is ft. benning since you say ft. gordon is a small base. Does ft. benning have a elementary school. Because ft. gordon has it own elementary school. With plans for a middle

I gave you the quote from the dean at UGA. Augusta economy did and will grow faster than atlanta, columbus, savannah, macon, and the rest of georgia in 2007 and 2008. Your article only says columbus will lead the state in jobs in 2008. Im happy for columbus but augusta's growth i.e. huge projects are mainly downtown. Over 400 condos are going up in downtown augusta in 2008.

columbus georgia is suppose to be turning a old mill into a condo that is a great idea but before you do make sure that you remove them old 2 tall smoke things by the mill that would make the project look more better and also remove that old rusted water thing by the mill that would also make the project look better columbus georgia needs alot of work done to it columbus georgia needs some tall buildings in the downtown area like some skyscrapers like atlanta has and columbus georgia needs like a small amusement park to attract people also if columbus does all of this what i said then columbus will be the second largest city in georgia

Fort Benning already has six elementary schools and one middle school.

Because common sense tells you to fly them to the closest burn unit. Why would they fly them to Atlanta or halfway across the state? My prayers are with the families.

I invested in the city of Augusta. I feel that change is happening and is very visible. Being orignally from the North I have an outsiders view of what a struggle this change has been. This is all for the better, keep the history but upgrade the quality of life that is already exsistent just buried. Augusta will be fine, I clearly remember Atlanta before the boom hit. That didn't happen over night and it still continues. I've seen major change to Augusta in the last 8 years. I know in another 10 and some of it a lot sooner Augusta will achieve that same commercial boom it desires, but all in good timing.

Very well said post. Augusta is about to be on another level in the next 2 to 3 years. 10 years i could only imagine what it will look like by then. Alot of people like your self have invested in augusta also. There is alot of people watching augusta because of atlanta and charlotte developers. Most of the projects happening in augusta now are because of these two cities. There are many more developers who are watching especially in atlanta. We will see what the tour brings us in april. Cal ripken jr will be there on behalf of the mayor deke copenhaver to sell augusta.

Sorry but augusta and macon are nowhere alike. Augusta is second place in every category and macon is usually 5th behind savannah, and columbus.

Demographics as of 2000. Augusta gained people in 2006 and 2007 macon city lost people. So the white is probably lower for macon, and higher for augusta now.

Macon 35.46% White, 62.45% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.65 Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.20% of the population.

Augusta 44.91% White, 50.37% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.52% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.79% of the population.

Macon has a larger black population in its city limits than augusta. Augusta has more white, native american, asian, pacific islander, other races, two or more races, and hispanic or latino than macon

Augusta is the most diverse city in georgia AND 4TH IN THE NATION.
Race Matters - Segregation is Up for U.S. Children

Economics
Augusta economy lead the state in 2007 and 2008. Augusta has the highest median income outside of atlanta in georgia

In any category you take for cities in georgia. The ranked will also be the same every time.
Atlanta
Augusta
Savannah or Columbus switching sometime
Macon

You said what I have been saying all along......and, like it or not, race does contribute to the economic status of a city.
