Sarah on the Move is on a distinguished road
Default Moving to GA need your HELP, please!

My family and I are looking to relocate to North GA we need to be about 2-3 hours away from Gadsden AL to be closer to family.

We have three young children so we need to find an area with Great schools that is safe and offers good paying employment. We like a small town feel but not too far out, we would really like to have a Publix near by.

We are considering Woodstock,Lawrencville and Gainsville right now. Please let me know your thoughts on these areas as well as other suggestions you might have. Thank you!

~Sarah

Woodstock is very nice, if you are in the Towne Lake area, lots to do, work and live. Lawrenceville I find to be very spotty, some parts are very nice, some are downright scary. Gainesville...I personally wouldn't move there if someone paid me. IMHO.

Our criteria for moving was mainly school districts. 2 great sites to check them out are Georgia Public Policy Foundation - www.gppf.org (georgia public policy foundation) it will list in pdf form how every school ranks. Also, GreatSchools.net is a good resource too.

I just recently moved to Canton and I love it. We are renting for now. Publix is 2 minutes away and it is a great area. Ball Ground is further north and more of a small town feel. You get more for your money and it's becoming more popular every year. We are considering that too to buy a house in. We have friends in Kennesaw, and while it is very beautiful, good schools, lots to do, the traffic is just plain AWFUL.

Hope that helps. :-)

You might consider looking at West Cobb, if this works in with other criteria. It would place you closer to the Alabama line.

Graywolf73, thanks for the interesting web sites. As a newcomer to the area I was glad to see how my kids' schools did on the report card. Looks like we made the right choice That is the best advice I can give anyone who is looking to relocate with kids. Research, research and more research and don't be afraid to ask people who live in the areas you are looking in.

One more note in regards to the Report Card on the schools, once you click on the link that Graywolf73 has provided, go to "Education Publications" and click on "Foundation releases annual Report Card for Parents 5/1/2007", you will then have the option of choosing elementary, middle or high schools.

Thanks again for the great info!
