New to Gainesville!!??
I have lived in the Gainesville area for about two years now and it is so boring!!! I mean where do you go to meet people? I was born and raised in memphis tn where everyone knows everyone, and not used to meeting new people. So far I have not met anyone that I would actally enjoy hanging out with! Any suggestions cause I am not one to go to the club by my lonesome. I am currently married and would even love to find other couples to hang out with cause its getting kinda lonely.....

Newgirl, I feel your pain. I moved here 6 months ago and HATE it. I have met a few people, but nothing like back home. Everything is different here.

yikes! is Gainesville GA that bad?
Wowee, I am thinking about moving to that area from beautiful west Michigan. I'm a Southerner, but I've been gone a long time. Should I reconsider???

I was expecting some "southern hospitality"...people that say hey when they walk by, hold the door for you...etc. Just isn't happening here. It's also a little more difficult to get a job here, unless you can speak spanish.

What were you expecting, exactly? Gainesville isn't exactly a huge employment hub, so all you're likely to find is service positions, and yes, many of those will require you to Habla Espanol, unfortunately. I'm thinking a little more research prior to moving was in order.......

What about church? I don't know what your religious beliefs are, but in a community the size of Gainesville I would imagine that they run the gamut. Most have Sunday School classes for young marrieds.
Also, what about the civic organizations in Gainesville? Volunteer groups?
If you're new in a community, you can't wait for the mountain to come to Mohammed...

I was expecting friendly people with manners (yes, there were some) This is the reason we rented for a year..once our lease was up we moved away. Maybe we were just in the wrong part of gainesville. My husband had lived there years ago and said it was nothing like it used to be.

Gainesville has changed over the years as has all of north GA. You need to move closer in to Atlanta. I prefer the Alpharetta area.
