This would allow great non motorized views of the mountains and the fall leaves. Equestrian trails from Helen to the top of the surrounding mountains would be a nice addition. On the other hand, a really nice bob sledding and snow tubing park nearby could bring guest in during the winter months.
The condo developments that have been built within the last few years are sitting empty, many are bank owned. I don't think we need anymore of that.

There is a trail from Pete's Park that goes to Unicoi State Park. The cross country and track team from the high school use this trail during the summer to train.

Snow tubing would be fun - and there are tubes a plenty in the winter since no one is tubing down the river after Labor Day. It's cold enough during the summer....

I think the fathers of Helen, who took their dying logging town and created the Bavarian theme years ago did a pretty good job. Yes it's kitschy, that's part of the charm, but they have done a good job of limiting the Pigeon Forgiazation.

Perhaps some major outside money could come in and Disneyfy it, but I would say that would be a loss. I say appreciate it for what it is, don't think it has ever been touted as a one stop resort for the mountain experience, just a good diversion while there.

The real star of the area is nature. Dukes Creek Falls, Anna Ruby Falls, Unicoi State Park, Richard Russell Scenic Highway, all of these are within the area and the real reason to go to this part of the state. Having Dahlonega nearby is a plus as well, totally different feel, less affected.

I agree it could be spruced up and having the Bavaraian dress code reinstated would be an improvement, but lets not get carried away with anything too grandiose.

Great little town. Lots of fun to visit. There are a lot of things to do in that whole area. I would contact the White County Chamber of Commerce.
