Need to no more about Eastman Georgia
Hello Everyone. I am considering the move to Eastman, GA. I have lived in Swainsboro, Moultrie, and LaGrange at different times in my life. I would like to know more about Eastman, GA. I have looked at some county data, but there's nothing like getting direct feedback. I have 3 school age children. So safety is very important and high on my list. I think I can adapt to just about anything. I'm not too concerned about job situation, but I am interested in just about anything that a single, female, young (a few years before I make 40 y.o.), family oriented, educated professional would be interested in.
I would like to know what it's like to live in Eastman as well as:
1. recreation
2. shopping
3. social
4. schools
5. real estate
I welcome and anticipate all of your replys. Thank you. Much Luv.
PS: Eastman is not the only location on my list. I have explored other areas already discussed in the Georgia forums, but couldn't find anything on this area.

The schools here are excellent and very safe. Our high school has received the School of Excellence honor twice. I have many friends and family that teach at our local schools and all agree that it is a great place to work.
Eastman is a small rural town so don't expect a lot of recreation activities. We have a multiplex theater that plays all of the latest movies. We also have a large recreation complex with lots of youth baseball, football, soccer, and basketball. Our Boys and Girls club offers great after-school activites and has really blossomed.
As for shopping, we have a lot of small mom-and-pop shops around town. We also have a Super Wal-Mart as well. Shopping is probably Eastman's weakest area, being that it's such a small town. Luckily, we're only 30 minutes from Dublin Georgia, 45 minutes from Warner Robins, and an hour from Macon Georgia. All three cities offer lots of shopping options.
I can't comment on the social scene, as I'm married with child. When I was single, I always just drove to Macon to party.
As for real estate, the prices are pretty good. Part of that comes with being such a small rural town. Our town's biggest local realtors are SS&M Realty Real Estate Agents Rhenda Varnadoe, Kenton Haley, & Michelle Mullis Eastman GA Real Estate -- SS&M Realty and Jan West Realty Jan West Realty.
If I can answer any other questions, just let me know.

The Yankee went down to Georgia...
That Yankee is me. I'm a freshly minted Georgian, having moved from east central Illinois. I live near Cleveland (not actually in it) in what can be accurately described as the middle of nowhere.
So far I'm loving it. I'm getting a feel for the area, loving the scenery - so much different from the prairie - and am impressed with the people. They are very friendly and helpful. My accent clearly marks me as not being from around here, but so far I've never been hazed about it. The locals don't seem to mind having a Yankee around one bit.
Georgia has been very welcoming.

Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking of retiring to Madison, Georgia. I picture myself in a little cottage right next to downtown so I can walk there. Is that realistic? Is it nice there?
Thanks so much..

I did start a thread in the Georgia forum but then I found this so I am going to ask the same question--sorry to repeat myself this way but I need to find a good hospital--I belong to Kaiser HMO and have no idea of which hospital to go to in Georgia. I am willing to drive further if it means a better hospital. I did go to the medical center in Sugar hill but I need to find a hospital and not just a medical center. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
