United States Route 123 and Georgia State Route 365 in Stephens County, Georgia, are projected to relocate onto an extension of the Toccoa Bypass from South Big A Road (Georgia State Route 17) to Highway 123 and Riverdale Road near the South Carolina state line. (I do not know when the South Carolina Department of Transportation intends to widen United States Route 123 from the Georgia state line to Westminster.)

Georgia Department of Transportation: Toccoa Bypass Extension

As Georgia State Route 17's widening to the Franklin County line conclude, how soon could the Toccoa Bypass extension see construction?

For many years I would see that SE bypass of Toccoa on maps. It was some error where someone put a planned route on the map as if it existed. I was pretty confused when I was younger cause I knew it didn't exist. Good to see it. There have been some bad wrecks on 85 snarling traffic but with Lake Hartwell in the way there aren't may alternate routes. Sending traffic through Hartwell to Anderson on 29 has been done before and it's been a mess. 123 isn't exactly convenient either but it will be more so with this bypass and may even take some traffic from SC off 85.

Interstate 85 is being widened to three lanes in each direction from Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County to South Carolina mile marker 19 over several years.

United States 123 is the alternative to Interstate 85 northward. It would be helpful if it was improved between Toccoa and Westminster as it would open up and better connect both cities.

85 is not being widened, but it will be eventually. It can't come soon enough.

Interstate 85 is being widened indeed, but it is not in the construction phase yet.

Last time I drove up to Gainesville to visit my niece all the trees at I-85 and I-985 had been cleared away like a giant moonscape and earth was being moved -- what's that about?

GDOT is extending the express toll lanes from Old Preachtree Road to Hamilton Mill. The project will be done by 2018.
