All of the US 129/441 cities in NE GA that have four-lane bypasses running around them are NOTORIOUS speedtraps. The worst examples are Eatonton, Madison, Arcade, Jefferson, Pendergrass, Baldwin, and Dillard.

If you're on 16/27 You're going to pass through it. The problem is that they'll catch you in a school zone, before you even realize that you're even in Whitesburg.

Watch out in Terrell and Lee counties as well (Parrott, Sasser and Dawson, I'm looking at you). I firmly believe that SW GA's economy is based on obscenely high taxes and speed traps; there are probably about 30 people who work, and the rest live off collected fines and taxes.

I'm with you! You don't want to go over the speed limit here! You could miss the town in a blink but you had better slow down and enjoy the ride in Whitesburg!

Default Jackson County

Jackson County Georgia has the biggest police problem.

You have Arcade, Commerce, Braselton, Maysville, Pendergrass, Jefferson. Drive in any of these towns and you may leave a bit poorer.

It's not just GA. I used to live in central Massachusetts near the Town of Bolton, which had a 30 mph speed limit through town and the cops did nothing else except find ways to pull people over for doing 31 mph or more.

I think it has to do more with po dunk towns than with any specific state. Of course Georgia has a lot of po dunk towns.

I'll agree with Whitesburg, but Peachtree City is especially a speed trap. They will stop you for 1 mph over the limit. There will be 6 or 7 cars for one traffic stop a lot of the time. Cops have nothing better to do I guess.

Do they not have anything else to do in Poulan? I am a black female, was stopped going through, not speeding, just GP. I live in FL. On my return trip, was stopped again for a "window tint" violation. By the way, they issued a citation, didn't put the price of the fine on the citation. I had to call to get my "adjustable rate". The clerk was rude as hell. Now that I found this website, I am curious to know if they are just aiming to get money for political reasons, or possibly racially profiling. Freaking ridiculous. By the way, if you get a citation and can't pay it, they won't accept partial payments. You know what I say? I'ma send the money and if you don't want it, send it back so I can put it towards a radar detector.
