Bonaire Subdivision?
My family is going to be relocated to Robins AFB and I think I've found a nice home in Bonaire.. all I really know is that it's in a subdivision behind winn dixie off 96.. does anyone know the name of that area? Also if it's going downhill fast? I've seen quite a few homes for sale in that area when looking online and now I'm wondering if I should just steer clear? Thanks for any help.

I know where you're talking about, but can't think of the name of it. There's Sunset Terrace, Peachtree Estates, and one directly behind Winn Dixie but can't think of the name of it.
If you like the area and the house, go for it. I wouldn't live in that particular vicinity because of the traffic problems at the intersection of 96 & S Houston Lake Rd. It stays very congested there. Have you looked at anything a little further out in Bonaire? Or possibly Kathleen even?

I haven't personally seen the area, that's why I'm asking. We currently live over 9 hours away and with 2 small children, and a husband that's overseas it's not really practical for me to just drive out there to look around at this point. We'd definately do so before actually buying but we're mostly just trying to line up a few options first. Do you know if that neighborhood is going downhill? Thanks for your help.

I would steer clear of that area. It was heading downhill about 10 years ago. It's been awhile since I've been over there, but I don't remember it being a particularly wonderful area then.

The problem is there are alot of renters in the area who dont give a rip about the property and usually get booted out. Yeah, that neighborhood isnt the best.

We actually live in that subdivision (or a subdivision a few blocks away from win dixie) on bowens mill drive. We are moving and haven't listed our house yet, but my wife was in the af and stationed at robins.
The schools in bonaire/houston county are GREAT. Best I have ever seen. The neighborhood you are referring to is OK, but the city is GREAT. Very safe. The little league kids won the world series, the high school kids are 2 year state champs. Its a great city, good luck.
Let me know if you have more questions!

Just read all the responses, and I have no idea why everyone seems to say that particular area in robins is not a that good. The only area better would be Royal Oaks or Governors Estates. Everything else is old Robins (new robins is everywhere in the ara you said, bonaire and near 96). It's the fastest growing area in houston county, with a new lowes about a few miles away, and a great new high school about half a mile away! Its also about a mile from the area the little league team won the little league world series (great for kids!!!!!). It is in one of the safest / newest parts of warner robins and very close to the base still.
I have had no traffic issues AT ALL, except after the base lets off the civilians. But that is the entire city that gets congested then, as with any base town (from about 4:30 to 5:30/6).
Bonaire also has a brand new elementry school, hill top (amazing school). The subdivisions you are referring too were all built post 1995-2008 (still building now, brand new houses going up). The house we live in was built in 2002. This is not an old area at all, lol.
It depends on which subdivision you are talking about, because that area behind win dixie is actually stacked with new subdivisions. Some have the samller 110K houses being build for newly married couples (single military guys), and larger subdivisions with houses from 250K, with a lot of bedrooms and space. The divisions are barely seperated, as they all seem to run into each other, neighbors are great, people are nice. GREAT AREA, NEW AREA, very little crime.

Good thing you're leaving Bowens Mill. We looked out there many, many years ago when it was much newer and I didn't like it then...

House was built in 2002, and other than it being "cookie cut" type of subdivision (preference), I love the neighborhood.

We love Bowens Mill!
We also live in the Bowens Mill subdivision, and have been very happy here for 4 years. The area is quiet, and we have nice neighbors. Our kids attend a *fantastic* 1-year-old school, Hilltop, and the bus picks them up right outside our front door. Also, within the next 2-3 years, a brand new middle and high school (Veterans Middle and Veterans High) will be built in the Bonaire area, so zoning will likely change to either bump our subdivision's kids to the new schools, or possibly to Bonaire or Feagin Mill middle and Houston County High. This subdivision is in a great area, because it's convenient to the base and to I-75. We are very happy here, and would be happy to stay, but the Air Force has other plans for my husband.
I'm not sure why some people are so negative on the Bonaire area; I can say that directly behind Winn Dixie (and off to the side) are some apartments and smaller homes with renters. However, this area is still a very safe and overall quiet community with lots of nice families. This part of GA is a wonderful place to live, and the hosing prices are some of the best around! Very affordable!!
Thanks,
Kristy
