Im not sure about colonial's but the house in my sixth picture, a 4 bedroom 5 and 2 half bath brick sitting by a lake, is on sale for a cool $795,000. If you are looking for something less regal there are plenty of nice 3 bedroom homes for sale in the $189,000 to +$300,000 range some of them with acres of land.

Polk County Girl is on a distinguished road
Smile old house

For the past few years my husband and I make an annual trip from Central Florida to Moultrie, Ga to attend the Sunbelt Ag Expo which we really enjoy. Just last week we travelled from Moultrie on 37 over to Alabama. Maybe an hour into our trip I caught a glimpse of an old wooden plantation type house on the left side of 37, it sits right at the roadside and is falling down. Can anyone give me any history and maybe post a picture. I am sorry I cannot give more details. I am really intriqued by the old house. Thank you.

A similar photo comparison could be made of just about any county seat town in the entire state, from Atlanta on down. This is not relegated to Moultrie. You could have said this was LaGrange, the county seat of Troup County where I originate and I would have believed you.

Exactly so.
The old adage "wrong side of the tracks" certainly applies to a lot of small cities in this state. I know that in my mother's hometown of Brunswick, the best neighborhoods were right next to the poorest neighborhoods in town. I know from my grandparents' house they were only one block away. A lot of the wealthier citizens actually preferred it that way back in the day; crime was negligible, and the situation gave them easy access to their domestic help, who had a short walk to their employers' houses.
BTW, Galounger, I so enjoyed the tour of Moultrie's homes, which are indeed beautiful. You reminded me that Moultrie was the home of noted GA architect Frank McCall, whose work I have long admired. Some of the houses that you featured are indeed his, and you can see his family's business (Harper-McCall Insurance) in one of them as well.
