Hi! I am thinking about going to the University of West Georgia in Carrollton for grad school. Can someone just tell me a little about it... for example.. is traffic bad? Is it sort of a big campus and student population or smaller? Are people overall friendly? Are there places for rent that are not bad? Much crime? Shopping/food scene? How is the economy and housing market.. my parents are thinking of moving down also because they both just retired. Any lakes in the area (my dad loves them)? Is it really sort of a small town environment?
Specifics to those who know the school or went there: Is the staff helpful or are you just a number? Which dorm is the best for having a single room? Can you get single rooms? How are the teachers there... helpful and easy to talk to? What do students do for fun? Anyone major in psychology... is it a good school for that? THANKS SO MUCH! |

I have my undergrad degree in Psych from UWG and absolutely LOVED the department. The professors are wonderful - very helpful and easy to talk to. I transfered there from GA State because of the humanistic orientation of the psychology department.
It isn't a tiny school, but not huge either. I def saw a difference from my experience at Georgia State. The financial aid dept is very helpful and I felt much less like a number. I lived in Tyus hall where a single room is possible (but not easy to get). I believe it was renovated a couple of years ago, so it is probably a lot nicer than when I was there (I graduated in '02). There are also some apt complexes very close to campus where you can get a single room with roommates. If I remember correctly you might not have to have roomates lined up - the apt complex can match you. But I'm not sure about that. I am probably not the best person to answer your other questions because I usually went home to Atlanta on the weekends to my boyfriend (now husband) and other friends. There is some fun stuff to do, but it really depends on what you like. I think the downtown Carrollton square has developed a bit since I was there, with restaurants and bars, etc. I know there are some small live music venues with local bands too. I have always lived in Atlanta, so Carrollton did seem very small town southern to me. It could be a bit of a culture shock depending on where you are from, but the people are very friendly. |
