Default Mcdonough Opinions

Just looking on what people think of Mcdonough and where locals see it going. Anyone who moved from Florida to that area would be really helpful.

Thanks

We've lived in Clayton/Henry county for a few years. We've lived in McDonough for a year solid.

I'm constantly calling the cops for thugs and wannabe gangstaz breaking into my car, loitering in my area. When I talk the cops they say it's getting as bad as Clayton.

The traffic here is a nightmare. It's soooo congested and sooo many cars.

I don't have many good things to say about here, we're getting out asap.

They call it the upcoming clayton county as the migration of the demographic is altered. Currently, the demographic is more caucasion. The closer you are to the stockbridge/clayton line that demographic begins to change. Honestly, all races I've encountered have been pleasant here thus far.

The negative has been traffic. You have a lot of 2 lane roads with a never ending line of cars crawling along it since there arent a lot of center or right hand turn lanes for subdivisions. If you work downtown your average commute will be 65-80 minutes. It's about a 40-55 miles trip depending on your alternative routes to avoid fatality wrecks. It will burn you out overtime. If you leave by 550a you can get to downtown rather quickly (that being 50 mins.). Every 5 minutes past that and you enter the hellish grind festivel. I-75 has gotten better as travelers have scaled back, but volume is coming back as school has begun, college is about to begin, and gas is getting lower in price. The worse bottlenecks are 4 zones, downtown atlanta, I285 merge, I675 merge, and finally hudson bridge. Hudson bridge is generally one massive backup that can go on for about 5-10 miles. If it's a weekend holiday then every friday traffic will be a standstill from hudson bridge all the way up mt zion exit. Check that distance out on google maps - it's nuts. Be sure to observe GDOT traffic cams so you can get an idea of the regular accidents and volume during your expected travel times.

The area is very nice with plenty of shopping, but the traffic will age you. I have no fear of walking through my neighborhood at night or day. I noticed a slight increase in store robberies at night this past year. This place was fantastic several years ago, but the volume of growth is bursting this place. Housing is affordable and alot of quality options, but your sacrfice is your time and health from traffic stress. You find some great looking homes with .25 to 2 acres in the 200k-320k range. There are several neat parks nearby - Noah Ark animal rescue, heritage park, high falls, and charlie elliot nature reserve(gun range, stocked ponds, 6400 acres, camping, hiking, etc.). We have 2 outdoor malls in close proximity and a new (now rundown looking) movie theater. Also, theres a mini fun spot for bowling, motor cart track, mini golf, and lasertag - something for the kids.
