Do you think the weather is too cold for full time living in the N. GA mountains for seniors? What about ice? Really concerned about full time living there in the winter months.

My folks, in their mid-70's, live full time in the middle of Montana, 15 miles from the closest "town" (about 800pop) and 90 miles from the closest medical.

N. GA is an Urban area of exceeding warmth in comparison.

Perhaps if you'd mention where you're coming from. Someone coming from Phoenix will probably think it's cold and freak out/become immobile due to fear at the first hint of precipitation, someone from Minnesota will wonder why the area has no winter and try to figure out what to do with their winter clothes. It's all in perspective. But, my gut feeling is that if you have to ask this question, you're probably not going to be happy there.

Had a house outside of Blue Ridge, GA for a dozen years or so. Each winter there were a hand full of days where we couldn't get out of our driveway, much less down the mountain. But, that would generally only last for a couple of days before the roads cleared. We always made sure to have a large garbage can full of de-icing salt to spread in the driveway during those times.

I would imagine that if someone has a known medical condition that could require a trip to the hospital at any time, that you might want to think about relocating to a different area.

Yeah, right.
Half the residents of north Georgia are refugees from south Florida.
Ever heard the term "Halfbacks"?

We used to live in area of frequent snow in winter so didn't want to be in too much ice and snow again. Our elevation there was much higher than N. GA though. I had heard that the snow melts off within a day or two in N. GA but just wanted to double check before making the full time commitment. We are not from Florida or Arizona.- never lived there. Not having good experience with realtors in the N. GA area though. They don't seem to want to assist much its discouraging.
