Things aren't peachy in the Peach State when it comes to health. Just 10 years ago, Georgia ranked as the 30th most unhealthy state. Fastforward to today, where it nearly makes the top five.
It ranks fourth for the number of new AIDS cases reported and fifth for the number of sexually transmitted diseases. |

I think most of the Southern States rank very high on these indexes.
As far as health, the Southern diet doesn't help.. lots of fried foods..vegetables cooked in fat..sugar tea, etc. Also The South still has the highest concentrations of poverty.. and their is a direct correlation between poverty and poor health. As far as AIDS cases.. Southern states like Georgia rank high because they have a large African American population.. and that segment of the population is being hit by HIV AIDS bigger than any other group. Even though African Americans account for about 12 percent of the population nationally.. they account for nearly half of all new HIV cases. |
