Hey everyone,

I grew up in Gwinnett County and moved to Anaheim, CA in January after I graduated college. After 7 months in SoCal working at Disneyland I accepted a job in Salt Lake City with much better pay & benefits.

I've just signed a lease for a year, and I want to give SLC a chance, but I'm missing home. I feel like I never gave Atlanta a chance, I just moved away as soon as I could. (Graduated from UWG at 21)

I want to go back and see if the things I love about L.A. and Salt Lake City exist in Atlanta. Because I really think I wanna be closer to my family and friends, who are basically all in Georgia with the exception of a handful of close friends I made while living in California.

Advice? Tips? I don't know a soul in Salt Lake City, which has made me feel very isolated. Should I move back to Atlanta, or is moving back to my home state just a sign of weakness?

Well, considering you accepted a job in SLC and just signed your lease for a year, I would recommend you stay in SLC. Give it a chance, get out and meet people with similar interests. It's not a bad city. Visit Atlanta on your vacation time, if you have any. If you still miss Atlanta next year, look into moving back. But be warned, once you move back, your friends may have moved on/changed. Things might be different than how you remember. Relationships change. People change.

If you don't mind my asking, why did you move away "as soon as you could"?

The number of people who leave and move "back home", and are Happy, tend to be few in number. I say this from personal experience, times 2 (my wife). Things won't be the same when you move back, the people you left behind have moved on with their lives and you won't just slide back in like Nothing has changed... because things have changed.

And then there's the age old (true) saying of, where ever you go, there you are. After dozens of moves since I left home at 17, I can absolutely say that everywhere in the country is the same when it comes to your social life.

If you want to move back, then move back though. It's not a sign of anything other than wanting to move back. Just don't expect anything to be 'like it was' before you left... some things might be Similar, but they won't be the same.
